Biography

Hmmmm.... About me.... Well, I grew up in Wheaton, MD which is about 15 minutes north of Washington D.C. I have been playing guitar and singing for over a quarter of a century, with little formal training which included a semester in Junior High School and later some formal instruction under a graduate of GIT around 1990 or so. People ask me all the time whether I am a "lead" or "rhythm" player and I like to answer that I am both, as both are equally important. In my current band "Archer", I am the sole guitarist which allows me a lot of freedom, but also carries a lot of responsibility! I've played in bands and have sat in with many of the area's finest musicians including personalities from such acts as Band Of 1000 Names, Hectic Red, The Reagan Years, Rex Hunter, Iroc and Surreal. However, most of my time has been spent playing in the Mid-Atlantic regional act Archer, where I have gained most of my touring experience playing clubs from Northern PA down to North Carolina. During the mid-90's, I performed at countless venues (see below), and shared the stage with numerous established national acts including Kansas, .38 Special, Firehouse, Tyketto, Survivor, White Trash, Dr. Hook, and Foghat. I've also had the pleasure of attending and performing at the SXSW Music and Media Conference in Austin, TX, Philidelphia Music Conference, as well as the Cutting Edge Music Conference in New Orleans, LA. I have met many folks in my travels, some famous and some not so famous. This extensive amount of experience has taught me quite a lot, and helped me earn an endorsement with DR Strings, as well as recognition under the "Best Guitarist in the Mid-Atlantic" category in the Music Monthly Magazine Annual Readers Poll on several occasions.

Influences

Some of my influences include but are definitely not limited to Neal Schon, Audley Freed, Brooke St. James, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Page, Don Felder, David Grissom, David Holt, Jeff Cook, Jeff Avery as well as numerous others that I may have picked up riffs from in the past whether I realize it or not! I believe that there's something to be learned from everyone.

Choice In Gear

My choice of guitars really depends on the style of music I'm currently playing, the day of the week, alignment of the planets and possibly even my mood ! I own several guitars including an '89 Strat Plus Deluxe, '77 Aria Pro II Stagecaster
(Strat clone), '82 Aria Pro II PE-60, '98 Gibson Nighthawk, '81 Greco Spacey Sounds (Telecaster clone), 90's Burny Les Paul Standard clone, '00 PRS McCarty and my trusty old '83 Gibson Les Paul Custom. Additionally I own a Washburn EA-20 acoustic/electric that I use primarily for writing and storing my dust collection.

My choice of amplification is also related to the style of music and venue size as well. Currently I am playing through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe paired up with a Mojotone 2X12 cabinet, but am also dialing in a new Fender Super-Sonic combo that will soon start seeing action. The Hot Rod Deluxe has been working well with a few pedals patched in for some effects and additional sonic options. I also have a Fender Prosonic head that pairs up nicely with the Mojotone or my Marshall 1960A cab as well. For studio work (and restaurant gigs !) I own a few smaller amps including a Fender Champion 600, Carvin Vintage 33 and a 1970 Fender Deluxe Reverb which also happens to be my first amplifier given to me by my father as a teenager.
