ONE HEART, TWO WORLDS
An album by

I was born and raised in Bristol Bay, an experience
I wouldn't trade for anything. One Heart, Two Worlds
is my way of saying that I'm constantly longing to return home.

This album is dedicated to the memory of Arlen and Jo Anna Ruby, who lived with their family down the street from me in Dillingham. With their sons, Andy and Kenneth, I got my start playing music in their basement.

There are many to whom I owe gratitude. First and foremost is Melody (yes, her real name). It was her suggesting to call the album One Heart, Two Worlds, and to her credit, she also vetoed my contribution: Songs that Nearly Drove Melody Crazy!

Bringing an original Song to closure can often be a daunting task - akin to trying to wrap your arms around a mosquito bouncing off the walls in a cabin in the pitch black!

But my friend Dave Stancliff has been down this path many times. I am indebted to him for the countless hours he spent patiently listening, and for his many suggestions that found their way onto the CD. He also has a new recording of original music, called If Heaven's Not Alaska.

With the help of my trusty four-track recorder, I wrote and arranged all the songs on the album, with the exception of "Caribou Winds" and "Compass Rose," which feature lyrics written by Dave.

Mary McBurney and Juli Lucky sang nearly all the background vocals and did so flawlessly. Their wonderful voices gave the album much of its flavor and helped soothe the rougher edges of my vocals.

I would be remiss if I did not mention the gatherings every Friday night in the Alaska Capital (during the legislative session), where musicians come from all corners in Juneau and beyond to play music in Rep. Richard Foster's spacious office. "Friday's at Fosters began several years ago with two people. These days there's hardly enough room to stand.
