Biography


In it's current line-up, Datura have been together since early 1995.
With the blending of three individual and artistic personalities,
they combine in a style which could be loosely described as early
70's "Hard Rock", (or if you like - Drug Metal or Stoner Rock).
A merging of Sabbath riffs and Stooges attitude, with early
Grandfunk styled vocals and hippy lyrics. Yet Datura themselves
also have many current-day favorites and this results in a sound
with definite and fresh 90's edge.

Having played frequently
around the central North Island of New Zealand, Datura's reportoire
consists of 100% originally written material, of which two
demo-styled cassettes have previously been available. Both put
out in 1996, they were well received by locals and sold out quickly.

After a giging and writing period, the band went into the studio in
November '97 recording their first full length album for
Cranium Music, to be released in March 1998.
