With an evergrowing amount of internet users
the amount of online fakes have
now started to drastically increase. What is an online fake? An
online fake
is someone who pretends to be someone they are not. Recently many
Nirvana
fans who thought they had contact with Krist Noveselic were
fooled by one of
these online fakes. People so desperate to get attention to
themselves, they
feed on people that have hope that they are talking to the heroes
via their
computer who would of never had a chance to chat with them before
the
interenet was created. Not just anyone can be an online phony.
They have to
be up on their facts, and know what they are talking about.
Recently an
online member claiming to be Krist Noveselic gave a candid
Interview to a
major Nirvana website. It was at first trusted, but when
questions arose this
member suddenly dissapeared.
Also inaccuracies were found in their text. Within the next few
months
there was another pereson, or even possibly the same impersonator
pretending
to be Krist saying the untitled song on the recently discovered
Kaos radio
show demo recorded on 4/17/87 was a song called
"Adorn." Word caught on of
this name, and it was also trusted and believed by many major
Nirvana
websites, even the site that originally found the demo in the
first place. It
was also unfortunately proved false and the name still stands
unknown. What's
even sadder is many Nirvana fans do not even know the name of the
song is NOT
"Adorn" and still use the fake name not knowing the
difference.
Just recently I started a special section on my own webpage
trying to
interview any Nirvana related celebrities that had contact with
any of the
members or even at best hope to find someone that was still close
with the
former band members. I sent out emails to various addresses that
I knew to be
the real people and not fakes. That same day I started the page I
received a
lead that Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson had an online account. I
was
reluctant to believe it until I received an email from my friend
in which she
told me she got the email address from Eric's cousin. She also
sent me a
copy of her letter, and the response of the person claiming to be
Eric. It
sounded believable. So I trusted the address. But when I sent out
my email
to Eric, I asked some very difficult questions which only the
real Eric could
answer. This person took a very long time to respond, and did not
really
answer my questions. So I did some research on the email address
to fnd that
this person was also an online fake. Obviously I was very
dissapointed to
find out this news.
So what can we do to stop these online fakes? Well there is
nothing we can
really do because it is not illegal what they are doing. The
internet can be
a web of lies and misconceptions due to never really knowing for
sure who is
on the other end of the message. So my message to you is be
careful who you
trust, as you can never trully trust anyone 100% but yourself.
