Ashbury Park, NJ (May 24, 1997)
I saw the Offspring on May 24 at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ. The opening bands were AFI and L7. Afi was awesome but i hated L7. After L7 left I got real excited. Soon there was a voice saying "It's time to relax, wait u dont wanna relax, your a bunch of bad boys and girls, go ahead role a fattie and enjoy the show....see you in the pit. A second later, I heard the Bass begining to bad habit, Soon Dexter started to sing the lyrics and the crowd went crazy. Then they played, All the great songs like, Session, All I want, Nitro, Beheaded, It'll be a long time, genocide, Come out and Play and others. I remember crowdsurfing and being pushed around and being taken over the guard rails by security. I was able to get a feel of Noodles' foot. (hey, It was my first Offspring concert!!) The offspring went off stage and the crowd began to clear. I wasnt stupid though. I knew they would do an encore. I ran to the rail and held on tight. When they came back out they played GONE AWAY. That was great. I was right in front of Dexter and Greg. It was the best concert I've eveer been to.
Austin, TX (April 9, 1999)
Greetings. Heres my review from there show they played last night. Show was interesting. Opening bands were D Generation and the Living End (who kick major ass.) Around 10 the lights finally went out in Austin Music Hall. They started with "Americana", first with Ron playing his drums, then greg, then noodles. Right as the music was going on, one of the roadies was on this little platform doing some weird vocal thing. THEN Dexter came out and they started to tear things up. Although im not sure what the set list was now, the first 3 songs they did were Americana, Session, and Walla Walla. They pulled alot of skits on during the show, including Dexter beating up some blowup dolls with the Backstreet boys faces on it. Songs they played included: Self Esteem, Genocide, Gotta Get Away, Self Easteem, Cool To Hate, Gone Away, Have you Ever (this song rules so much live), and Pretty Fly. For the encore, they started out with Pay The Man.... and they did the whole damn song... all 8 min of it... weirdest thing i ever saw. they ended the show with Why dont you get a job and then doing Feelings. Cool Moments: Dude from the pretty fly video coming out and dancing (he had the jersey and everything from the video going on), Intermission (they were passing out beer, gum, and some other stuff while these machines blew out bubbles and confitti into the air... meanwhile dexter and noodles were sitting on this couch drinking water). The only thing i didnt like about the show was not playing alot of the older stuff (like kick him when hes down or beheaded) and even some of the newer songs(All i want and mota) not being played. Also Dexters lack of talking to the crowd was kinda odd too.
Houston, TX The Aerial Theater (April 10th, 1999)
I was really excited to be going to my first Offspring concert, since they are one of my favorite bands. Degeneration and the Living End opened for them. They were both really good, and the lead singer of Degeneration was signing Cd's between sets. Finally, after The Living End's set ended there was about a thirty minute wait and then.......Offspring!!! They started the set with Americana. I can't remember the songs in order, but they did play: Come Out and Play, Bad Habit, Self Esteem, Genocide, The Meaning of Life, Cool to Hate, Gone Away, I Choose, All I Want(my personal fave), Have You Ever, Staring At The Sun, Pretty Fly, The Kids Aren't All Right, Walla Walla, Why Don't You Get a Job, Pay The Man and some others I can't remeber. They ended the set with Feelings. The concert rocked! During Pretty Fly they brought out the guy from the video. It was pretty funny. In between songs the lights turned out and a voice came over the loud speaker saying "Now Welcome the Backstreet Boys." (or something like that) The lights turned back on and there were five dummies that looked like the Backstreet Boys while "Everybody" was playing in the background. Dexter came out and started beating the dummies with a bat. It was awesome!! After the concert I wandered around with my brother and I suggested that we go by the buses. When we got over to the buses there was a crowd of girls and in the middle of it was Noodles!!! I got him to sign my ticket stub. He was one of the nicest people I have ever met. He was also very funny and responded well to all of the questions people asked him. That was probably the best night of my life. I was amazed by the band's energy, and by how Noodles' was so down to earth and sincere.                                    Offspring Forever!!! e-mail LeAnne
Location Unknown, (Dec 1, 1998)
The first day of December 98...who could ask for a better way to get ready for the new year...than to see The Offspring LIVE!  Clearly, without a doubt, the best band to see live ever!  The opening  band "The Quincy Punx" which are a local group from around my town, got the crowd pumped up with humor and high energy hardcore punk.  About a half hour later "Unwritten Law" came out and rocked the fuckin place!  Whoa boy...I was excited as hell to finally see Offspring live!  It took almost another 30 minutes for them to come out, but who cares?!? its worth the wait!  As soon as the lights darkened every sound was a blur with fans screaming their asses off!  Finally Ron took the stage first, sat down, followed by Noodles and Greg...then Dexter walked out really slow.  They all sat there staring at us for at least 2 minutes not making one single move...then Dexter grabbed the mic and started... "ok...ya ya ya ya ya!" and opened with "All I Want"!  Amazingly, I remember the entire 20 song set list...and it is as follows: All I Want Session Walla Walla Gone Away Have You Ever Meaning Of Life Smash Cool To Hate I Choose Bad Habit Kick Him When Hes Down Intermission Genocide Staring At The Sun Come Out And Play Pretty Fly For A White Guy MOTA Self Esteem Gotta Get Away Nitro Another cool thing was that after they played Session, the crowd had to carry Dexter to the back where the bar was so he could give some dude some beers.  Too bad they only played 2 of their old songs, but it was still fucking great!  I was really hoping they would play "Nothing From Something" and "Tehran", but oh well, any song they play live, is...aaah words cant explain it.  If you pass up an opportunity to see these guys live, you are, my friend, a stupid dumbshit goddam motherfucker!
Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Australia (June 24, 1999)
On the 24th June 1999, The Offspring played at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Australia. After watching Eskimo Joe and Guttermouth for about an hour or so, Offspring came on. The crowd went ecstatic as Dexter, Noodles Welty, and Greg K. walked on stage with ‘Americana’ as their first. Although no cameras were allowed, there were a lot of flashes going off. I can’t remember all the songs or the exact lineup but they included tracks from Smash such as ‘Self Esteem’ and ‘Come Out and Play’; ‘Cool To Hate’, ‘I Choose’, and ‘Gone Away’ from their ’97 album, Ixnay on the Hombre; as well as the tracks ‘Why Don’t You Get A Job?’, ‘Walla Walla’, and ‘Pretty Fly (for a white guy) taken from their latest, Americana. Halfway through the concert came ‘Intermission’. While the guys took a quick break, inflatable chairs were placed on the stage, along with a woman wearing basically a bikini holding a sign reading ‘Intermission’. Standing in the middle with his hands on his hips wearing nothing but a red cape and red jocks was some fat dude. A few songs later the lights went out and seconds later, ‘Backstreet’s Back’ by Backstreet Boys began to play. The lights came back on and in the middle on the stage were cut – outs of the Backstreet Boys. Noodles and Dexter returned back on the stage and began knocking down the cut – outs. A couple of tracks later, the band asked the moshpit if they were hot, so Noodles splashed out some bottled water. They realised that it didn’t help the hot, squashed and congested mosh, so Noodles grabbed a fire extinguisher thing filled with water and sprayed it everywhere. Dexter said that that wasn’t helping so he pulled out a huge hose – like the ones from fire engines, and squirted everyone. It reached as far back as to the end of the mosh area. The Offspring played a few more songs and then walked off the stage. After the cheering of ‘Offspring…Offspring’, they returned to the stage and played ‘Pay The Man’, taken off Americana, followed by the finale ‘Feelings’. This is one concert by the Offspring that will be unforgettable. e-mail Miranda Johns
