In 1987, Star Trek: The Next Generation was created by Gene Roddenberry. The first new Trek on television since 1969, and the first spin-off, TNG took place almost 100 years after Captain Kirk and Mister Spock. The series featured an all-new USS Enterprise and an all-new crew, led by Captain Jean-Luc Picard. The new time period allowed for even more aliens and stories of the final frontier. The show was extremely successful and ran for seven seasons in syndication, winning several Emmy awards. The series then followed the original crew's path into feature films.
