It was a typical day in Hazzard County, which in most places would be considered a strange day. The Duke boys, cousins Bo and Luke Duke, were being chased by Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane. Sitting, on the seat of the patrol car, next to Rosco was his faithful basset hound, Flash. The day had started out good for the boys, they had just won a dirt track championship race over in Sweetwater county. The boys car, General Lee, is well known around the area as being the fastest car in the south. Both Bo and Luke have the reputation of being the best drivers.
"You ain't doin' to good a job at losing Rosco." Luke said as he looked over at his younger cousin.
"Well I'll lose him, you'll see." Bo said, then glanced into the rear view mirror to see how close Rosco's car was. Then Bo smiled. "I know just where to lose him to. Hold on."
Bo then did a 180 and headed back towards Rosco. Rosco veered off the to one side, then turned to chase after the boys.
"Hot pursuit, I love it, I love it." Rosco said happily to Flash, as he chased after the Duke boys.
Luke looked out the back window to see how close Rosco was. "Thought you said you were gonna lose ole Rosco."
"I did. I will. Just you wait." Bo said
Bo then turned onto Cottontail road.
"You know that the bridge is still out?" Luke said, looking at Bo.
Bo smiled. "Yeah, I know." then he laughed.
Luke smiled and shook his head. "You're crazy."
As they approached Hazzard Creek, Bo accelerated the car, then they hit a bump and became air borne. The General sailed gracefully across the creek.
"YEE-HAW!" Bo yelled as the car flew through the air.
They landed on the far side of the creek, then stopped to watch Rosco's attempt at preforming the same stunt. Rosco's car became airborne, but only managed to make it about half way across the creek. The partol car splashed into the murky waters of the creek. They waited to be sure that Rosco was okay. Rosco climbed out the driver's side window holding Flash. They both laughed.
"Looks like he's okay." Luke said.
"Yeah nothing a warm towel won't fix." Bo said.
"We had better get going." Luke said.
"You got it." Bo said then speed away from the creek.
They sped off down the road, they were by the Rainbow Mines, about two miles from home. They lived at the Duke farmhouse with their Uncle Jesse and cousin Daisy. Both the boys had lived there all their lives, ever since their parents had died. Daisy had came when she was six.
Suddenly the rear tire on the passenger side blew out.
"Keep it on the road." Luke said as he braced his right hand on the dashboard.
Bo was trying to get the General to stop with out going off the edge of the road, his blonde bangs falling into his deep blue eyes. Then the front tire on the driver's side blew out as well, which started to send the car into a spin. Bo kept trying to bring the car to a stop, and keep it from flipping over. Since they were still doing around forty miles an hour if they flipped over it would cause a lot of damage.
They hit the edge of the road and skidded down the embankment, crashing through the bushed. Bo struggled to keep the car from rolling over, and managed to do so. The General came to a crashing stop against a large old oak tree, against the passenger side. A few twigs and leaves fell down onto the roof of the car.
"That's one way to stop." Luke said breathing a sigh of relief.
"Cute." Bo said looking over at Luke.
"You okay?" Luke asked, as he looked back at where they had skidded down the embankment.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Bo replied. "You okay?" he asked as he to turned around to see where they went off the road.
"I'm okay. That was some fancy driving." Luke said looking at Bo.
Bo smiled. "Thanks, cuz."
Bo climbed out the window of the car, since the doors of their car are welded shut for safety's sake since they use it for racing. Luke slid over and climbed out the diver's side window as well, since he couldn't get out on the passenger side. They walked around the car looking at the damage. They stood staring at the smashed in passenger side. Bo leaned on Luke's shoulder.
"This is gonna cost a lot to get fixed." Luke commented.
"Yeah. Good thing we won that race so we have the prize money so we can actually afford to get it fixed." Bo said.
"The CB antenna busted off when we crashed through the bushes, and we ain't got no spares so we are gonna have to walk home, we can call Cooter from there and he can tow the General out of here."
"Yeah. I doubt the General will even start, it kicked out when we hit that tree."
Bo got into the General and tried the engine, but it wouldn't turn over. "It must have flooded out, or something."
Bo got back out of the General and stood over by Luke. "At least Cooter will be able to fix it."
Cooter Davenport is the owner and operator of the Hazzard County garage. Not only is he a good friend of both Bo and Luke, he is also a mechanical genius who can fix anything to do with cars.
The boys had begun to walk home, when they noticed a mysterious blue light coming from the entrance of the mine.
"What's that?" Bo asked looking over at the glowing blue light.
"I don't know." Luke said, looking at the light as well. " Why do you have all the questions and I have all the answers?"
"Cause you're older." Bo said and laughed. "Now let's go check it out." Bo said heading towards the mine.
"Not much." Luke said then followed after Bo.
Bo was just about the entrance, he stopped and turned around to wait for Luke, who was about six feet behinds him.
All of a sudden the boards that blocked the mine entrance were sucked inward. They saw the blue light was a spinning blue portal, it started to pull them both in towards it, with a almost vacuum effect. Luke grabbed hold of the tree he was standing next to, to avoid being sucked in. The only thing near Bo, for him to hold on to was a small tree. Bo held on he could feel whatever was attempting to pull them in grow stronger. The tree that Bo was hold started to snap under the pressure. Both of them could hear the tree started to snap.
"Give me you hand." Luke said as he held the tree with one arm and reached for Bo with his other hand.
Bo reached for Luke's hand, but he couldn't quite reach, Luke's hand was just out of his grasp.
"I can't reach." Bo said trying to stretch further to reach Luke's hand.
Luke started to panic, he didn't want to lose Bo. The boys had always been extremely close and more like brothers then cousins. He readjusted his position to try to be able to reach further. Luke could just reach Bo's fingers.
"Come on just a little bit more." Luke said as he tried to get a firm grip on Bo.
"I can't." Bo said. He had started to fear that this was the end.
The tree Bo was holding on to finally snapped under the pressure. Luke felt Bo's fingers slip from his grasp.
"NO!" Luke yelled, as he watched in horror as Bo was pulled into the blue portal. He felt tears coming into his eyes. He didn't even try to hold back the tears and they flowed down his cheeks. He couldn't believe that he had lost Bo.
Luke started to feel himself losing his own grasp on the tree. He tried desperately to hold on, but his efforts were futile. Luke lost his hold on the tree and was then sucked in through the blue portal.
Immediately after Luke was sucked in through the portal, it closed shut with a bright flash of blue light, removing all signs of it's existence.
