The guys are off to get work experience, and they have all got a paper signed by their parents, except for Stassy. Her father doesn’t trust strange men being around her so he wouldn’t give her consent. Declan isn’t going anywhere either, as Dyson thought it too big a reason for the school, considering his record. Ronnie suggests the two get their work experience teaching at Hartley; their assignment is to talk to younger students about responsibility. Declan does it quite well, but the kids start mocking Stassy, because of her looks among other things. Declan tells Stassy she should try being herself more, and she changes her looks the next day and tries again. This time it goes quite right, but she has discovered teaching is harder than she thought.

Allie and Danielle get permission to watch a well-known reporter, Trish Ferro, being at work. When Trish finds out Dani had a problem with drugs, she suggests to turn it into an item to warn others not to use the stuff. Dani agrees with it, but when Trish interviews her it reminds her of the trouble after Steve dies and she starts crying. Trish acts like she’s really friendly, but when she shows the edited item to Danielle it turns out Allie, who distrusted Trish from the start, was wrong: Trish has distorted the interview, so that it seems like Dani’s living in the streets, robbing people to get drugs, and like she’s got bad parents. Though in real she’s gotten over her drugs problem already! Allie and Dani rewrite the item but Trish doesn’t want it that way, and says the other one will be broadcasted that eve. Luckily later on the item gets replaced by a less serious one.
Kat leaves the job at an advertisement company after her boss makes her work as a receptionist instead of teaching her about marketing, steals an idea of hers and wants her to change herself.

Andrew’s former girlfriend, a researcher, is in town for a day, and she visits him. She encourages him to come with her to Antarctic, and he realises he doesn’t want to let her go. June says it’s not at all professional of Andy to leave in the middle of a year, but personally she reckons he should do what makes him happy. He resigns and the students tell him they’ll miss him as he was a good teacher.
Allie, Stassy and Matt are ar the warehouse with Dani, Declan and Bolton to do their assignment. Despite of the animosity between them, things seem to be going well, untill Matt touches a speaker Bolton’s tinkered and gets a huge electric impulse. She realises she still cares a great deal for him. Allie and Dani become friends with Stassy because they realise they’ve misjudged her.

Episode 14 (series 4) 79
Allie, Matt and Bolton form a team for a debating competition between Hartley and Allie’s former school. They’ve won the first of three debates, but during the second Bolton refuses to defend Hartley’s position because he’s developed a crush on a girl in the other team. Therefore Hartley loses the second debate, and the other two are quite mad at Bolton. Especially cos Allie absolutely can’t stand the girl Bolton likes, whose name is Linda. He goes to Linda’s school and asks her out on a date. She says yes. They get on quite well, but later on Linda’s parents tell her she can’t see Bolton anymore. She starts seeing him secretly, as she’s discovered she really likes him, though she started going out with him just to get on Allie’s back. Plus her family’s from Bosnia and several of her relatives have been killed in the war or are missing. Bolton overhears this and later on he comforts her.
The subject of the third and final debate is racism in Australia. Bolton delivers a great speech, actually mainly to Linda’s parents, about how pathetic racism is. Hartley wins the competition, but Bolton doesn’t get the chance to celebrate that because Linda tells him she’s moving back to Taiwan. Stassy comforts Bolton.
Episode 15 (series 4) 80
June’s got a new, emancipated idea: the guys need to learn to cook, and the girls need to learn how to repair a car. The guys aren’t exactly fond of this idea, especially when Tom Summers, their cooking teacher, arrives, and they reckon he’s a creep, but the girls do like their new course.
Allie’s writing a novel about her experiences at school, and Tom lends her a book about writing. He also tells her his girlfriend Vicki is an editor, so she might be able to help Allie publishing the book, if it’s good.
Via e-mail, Katerina gets in contact with a guy, Charlie. She sends him a photo of herself, but not a very realistic one: she’s given herself blonde hair and a model’s body.
Declan’s got a new job: he sings at the Shark Pool. And the visitors are enthusiastic about him, as the profit’s increasing.
The guys have been baking cakes together with Stassy, whose dad got very angry when he found out she had been repairing a car, and banned her from that class. Tom told the guys to bake cakes for the teachers, and because they don’t like him, they put a laxative in the icing. But June tells them the cakes will be served at the parent-teacher meeting. The guys bake new ones to replace the others, but the cakes get messed up and eventually they have to tell Tom about the laxative. Luckily he’s so kind to throw them away to save them. The girls have repaired a car the guys couldn’t fix. June’s satisfied with the results of the new course, but cancels it.

Episode 16 (series 4) 81
Kat is very disappointed in Charlie: when he arrives, it turns out he’s as much of a nerd as he possibly could have been, whereas he wrote to her he was handsome. Charlie does like Kat, and he wants to impress her by getting her tickets for a concert which is sold out. He tells her he knows a PR-guy, but later on confesses to Bolton he doesn’t. Bolton just received a 200 dollar bill for his usage of the Internet at school, and he tells Charlie he’ll get him tickets if Charlie allows him to use his access. Unfortunately Tom catches them and puts them on a detention. Bolton tells Kat Charlie lied about his contact, and Kat gets really angry at Charlie.
When an old lady who lived near the warehouse dies, only two people show up at the funeral: Dani and an old guy, who tells Dani her neighbour loved it when she visited her. Dani realises how sad it is that some old people hardly have any company, so she and Allie decide to start visiting old people to keep them company. But the old lady Dani visits doesn’t like her because she’s young, says that Dani isn’t interested in her at all, and makes her do the housekeeping. Dani takes the old man she met at the funeral to the lady’s place, and they do get on well.
Declan’s mum has got multiple sclerosis, but Dec-head won’t tell Dani what’s up. When he finally does, Dani goes to Declan’s place with Allie and Kat, to help his mother. The old man told Dani to seize the day, carpe diem, and Dani decides not to let Declan go anymore.
Episode 17 (series 4) 82
Tom gives the students a really cool assignment: they have to work in pairs and in each pair one person needs to invent something creative, and the other person has to set up a marketing plan. The theme is recycling. Stassy asks Allie to work with her, as she’s into designing fashion but can’t sew. Allie says sewing’s no problem to her. Unfortunately Stassy’s father thinks the project is a waste of time and he won’t allow her to stay out after school to work on it. When Stassy cryingly tells Allie about it, she comforts her and says they’ll work on the project at school, during the breaks and free periods.
Tom is helping Allie with the novel she’s writing, but June tells Tom it’s forbidden for a student to be alone with a student, and that he has to stop helping her. Allie’s not very glad with that, and asks him to come to the Shark Pool to continue working on the book anyway. He agrees.
June likes the assignment and arranges to let the presentation of the project take place at the Shark Pool. But Stassy’s father is causing trouble again by not allowing her to go out the night of the presentation. Luckily he must away, so Stassy gets the chance to go to the presentation and model the dress. All the projects are a great success.
There were journalists present at the Shark Pool, and this causes Stassy’s father to see a hazardous picture of his daughter in a newspaper the next day. He’s furious and forces her to quit school, or else she’ll have to move out. She leaves home and moves into the warehouse.
Episode 18 (series 4) 83
Vicki, Tom’s girlfriend, visits him at school, and he introduces Allie to her because Vicki’s an editor. Bolton copies Allie’s unfinished novel which is based on her experiences at school and hands it out. Many students are mad at Allie because they’re obviously described in the story, though with aliases. Ronnie tells the students to hand the papers in, and when Vicki sees them and reads the story, she reckons Allie’s a major writing talent. They start working on the book together, and Allie decides not to join in the race after all, because she has to finish the novel soon. Vicki’s in town for a few days only.
It’s one day before the cross-country race Roberto has been training Matt, Allie and Declan for. Tom has arranged that two talent scouts will be there to watch mainly Matt, and they come to Hartley first. When June finds out about that, she doesn’t agree with it at all, and reckons he should have asked for her permission first. But the scouts do come to the race, and when Kat explains to Charlie how much it means to be spotted by these guys, he runs like mad in the race, to the point of fainting. Matt quits running to stay with him whilst Declan calls an ambulance. June’s even angrier at Tom when it is notified that Charlie has a chronic irregular heartbeat, and that he shouldn’t have taken part in the race at all. Kat went crazy when she saw Charlie having a heart attack, and she actually visits him in hospital and promises to go on a date with him when he’s out of there.
Bolton won the race but he cheated, as he covered most of the distance on his blades. Besides, no one’s there when he reaches the finish, as they’re all with Charlie.
Matt reads about him and Allie breaking up in the book, and he decides to make that real, mainly because he’ll be training every night for the trial at a basketball club Tom got him.
Episode 19 (series 4) 84
Rocco suddenly visits his parents. He advices Roberto to sell the Shark Pool, and Roberto starts considering it, but he tells Rocco there won’t be any money for him. What he doesn’t know is that Rocco is in debt to Leo Fine; in fact he owes him ten grands. Rocco tells Leo the Shark Pool is for sale, but Leo wants a part of the debt right now, so Rocco steals from the cashbox at the Shark Pool. When his dad finds out about the missing grand, Rocco blames Declan. He gets fetched by two coppers the next day, when he’s at school. Matt is absolutely sure Declan didn’t steal the money. He suspects Rocco and convinces Kat, and the next day they tell Helen and Roberto. Rocco leaves for the States again.
Stassy wants to pay her part of the rent for the warehouse, but she isn’t in speaking terms with her father and she hasn’t got a job. Her mates try to help her, especially Bolton seems quite concerned for her. He even talks to June Dyson to ask her to tell Stassy about financial support. But Stass gets angry when June talks to her, and she makes it clear Bolton should mind his own business. Allie and Dani copy a photo taken at the Shark Pool when Stassy was wearing the recycling dress, and send it to some modelling agencies. And one of them replies: they might want Stassy as a model!
Charlie is trying to get Kat to keep her promise and go on a date with him, but she confesses she only said she would do so to make him feel better when he was in hospital. However, he keeps dreaming about a date with her, and he takes it that far he defends her from the advances of Leo Fine! She appreciates that, and so do many others at school.
Episode 20 (series 4) 85
Charlie has discovered Matt is Hartley’s most popular guy, and so he asks Matt for help on changing his image. Matt agrees to help, and when Charlie’s done his makeover, all the girls find him drop-dead gorgeous. Including Katerina. But when she asks him out, he boasts that he’s already got a date that night, which isn’t true. Kat goes complaining to Matt, but he tells her she’s superficial: she never wanted him and now that he’s become handsome she does. Kat goes to the Shark Pool that night, looking quite stunning, and finds out Charlie isn’t on a date at all. She asks him out again, and he says he really wants to. But on the date, they find they haven’t got much in common, so Kat starts trying to change him. He doesn’t want that, so the next time at the Shark Pool she makes the jukebox play one of Charlie’s favourite songs. He’s really surprised and they go dancing together, which ends with a kiss...
Stass is being photographed for the modelling agency, but she hates it. Bolton encourages her, but she makes it clear that she does not want a career in modelling, even if she could have one. Stass tells Bolton she never wants to model again, and the kiss. Later her first study support cheque has come through, so she doesn’t even need a job anymore.
A former bandmate of Declan’s, Lara, arrives. She tells Declan she’s about to record a demo tape for a record company, and that she’s going to try to cut him in on the record deal. She stays at Declan’s place, and it really bothers Dani but Declan doesn’t seem to notice. He gives her some songs he’s written recently, to practise; they’re in a book which also contains a song written by Dani. He tells Lara not to focus on that one, but when he’s off to school she records Dani’s song on her tape and adds she’s written it herself. Later on Dani finds out Declan and Lara were an item, and she isn’t sure about her relationship with him anymore. She thinks she’s got nothing in common with Declan and later on she breaks up with him. When the guys have been at the mall, watching Stassy, Lara accidentally leaves her jacket, and Dani finds the demo in its pocket. She listens to it at home, and finds her song is on it. She and Declan go to the record company where they hear Lara never told about Declan at all, and they tell them there Lara has stolen their songs. The deal gets cancelled and Lara leaves, while Dec and Dani get back together.
Tom is still helping Allie with her novel, and they get closer and closer. They go surfing together, and afterwards he kisses her! Allie’s novel gets published and it’s also in a competition. If it wins, Allie will be off to the UK for six months for a writing workshop.
