Dear readers,
I came up with this tragedy idea when I saw a page that had a special section for tragedy. I have read many terribly sad books and am somewhat curious of cancer and the affects it has on people. I am merely using the characters on Dawson's Creek for satisfaction of my curiosity. I love Pacey! So don't be mad at me. I'll write a happier series soon. And I would also like to inform you that I have researched the topic so all my info should be correct.

*When I write a characters name underlined that is the person's thought on what has already happened. I will often put that in the middle of part of the story. The story always continues where it left off afterwards.*
After Joey left Pacey felt much better. He sighed and looked at the clock. For two hours his problems had disappeared. He had felt his best in the past few hours and was looking forward to seeing Joey again. Pacey already missed her.
***
Joey walked swiftly towards her house. She had enjoyed herself at Pacey's. But as she had left all the painful realities had come rushing back. She couldn't possibly imagine her life without him.
Months ago she would have been happy if he was gone. He had discovered her crush for Dawson and when he had developed a crush of his own she forgot completely about Dawson. Her life had begun to come together.
Now it was falling apart. Joey felt selfish. Pacey had so much more to lose.
***
Dawson sat silently on his bed. The TV was on, but he wasn't watching. Whenever he was alone he thought of Pacey's condition. It had been a real shock to Dawson's fantasy land. It had shook the solid foundation of his life that he had rebuilt after his parent's marital problems. It had knocked it down and forced Dawson to deal with the problem head on.
He had never thought of his life without Pacey. Before this he would not have freaked out like he had. He would not have expected so much from Pacey. He would not be nearly as upset.
THE NEXT DAY
Dawson searched the crowded hallway for Pacey. He finally spotted him standing near the water fountain talking to Nellie Olsen. She was touching his shoulder and cocking her head in sympathy.
As Dawson moved closer Nellie pulled Pacey in for a quick hug. Dawson stifled a laugh as she walked away. Pacey's face was red and he smiled weakly at Dawson.
"Shut up, Dawson."
"Did I say anything?"
"No. But I can read your mind."
"Okay I won't say anything." He choked back another laugh. Pacey shoves him lightly. It was almost as if nothing was wrong.
***
Pacey sat on a hospital bed waiting with his parents. They were obviously as nervous as he was. The whole situation had brought him closer to his parents. Even his brother had gone out of his way to be nice to Pacey.
After what seemed like forever the doctor walked in. Pacey sat up straighter and so did his parents. "Pacey. I have some more bad news."
Pacey's face fell. "It has come to our attention that the tumor is too large to remove." Mrs. Witter gasped.
"Is there anything you can do to help?" She looked desperate. Pacey realized he was gripping the corner of the bed. He let go and looked at the doctor.
"I'm afraid there isn't anything we can do."
"Nothing?" Pacey didn't recognize the sound of his own voice. It sounded higher and shaky.
"Nothing."
Pacey's face fell. "So what will happen to me?"
"Well, we can recommend lots of rest. I'll prescribe you a pain reliever. Then eventually, hopefully while you are sleeping, your lungs will fill with fluid and all brain activity will cease." Pacey hadn't realized it until now, but he was crying.
"How long do I have?"
"At the most two months." Pacey's mother stood and walked over to Pacey. So did his father. They wrapped their arms around him and he started to cry.
