Free part thirty five

**
Changing my life
With your love
Has been so easy for you
And I'm amazed everyday
And I'll need you
Till all the mountains are valleys
And every ocean is dry
My love..

Chorus:
I'll be yours until the sun doesn't shine
Till time stands still
Until the winds don't blow
When today is just a mem'ry to me
I know I'll still be lovin'
I'll still be lovin' you..

Never before
Did I know
How loving someone could be
Now I can see
You and me
For a lifetime
Until the last moon is rising
You'll see the love in my eyes
My love...

(Chorus)
(Pat Bunch: "I'll Still Be Loving You")

The sun beat down mercilessly, but its warmth couldn't compare to Lucky's smile.

"Now..." Lucky said. He slowly turned from Liz and dug into his ample pack for the third time. "Lunch!" Lucky turned back to Liz. In his hands were a tiny blue cooler and a good-sized paper bag.

"You packed lunch?" Liz asked, a slight "aww" tone to her voice.

"Yeah, well, we can't have you starving, now can we? Besides, I had some help."

Lucky set the cooler near Liz and opened the paper bag. While he was rustling around inside it, Liz reached for the cooler.

"Uh uh!" Don't touch!" Lucky swatted her wrist, taking care not to hurt her.

Liz pouted and sat back to wait, crossing her arms. She glared at the top of Lucky's head, while he was bent over his bag.

"That won't make me move any faster," he commented, trying to hide his grin. Liz sighed impatiently. "Now, Elizabeth, who knew you were so demanding?"

"Lucky..."

"Ok, ok. I'm hurrying."

Lucky's arms emerged from the bag. His hands held two paper plates, plastic silverware and cups, and cloth napkins.

"I couldn't find any disposable ones," Lucky explained, almost embarrassedly. Liz touched his hand, forcing him to look at her.

"Don't sell yourself short, okay? You managed to catch me by complete surprise, plan a picnic...get me to a deserted beach..." Liz trailed off.

Lucky's eyes had turned a peculiar shade of blue by the end of Liz's monologue. He shifted, but his eyes didn't move from her face.

"You don't think that I would - I mean, you do...trust me, right?" Lucky's voice was low and its edge showed his vulnerability. Liz closed her eyes, leaning her head back. When her eyes flickered open a few seconds later, Lucky was looking away, to somewhere off in the distance.

"Lucky Spencer, you listen to me, and you listen good."

Lucky's eyes flew to Liz, who ignored his startled status.

"I trust *you*," she began, her voice strong and clear. "Lucky, you *know* how much I trust you. I trust you with my life...my body...every day. Would I put myself in danger, put myself in a situation I wasn't completely sure of, after what I've been through? I thought you knew I'm smarter than that."

Lucky swallowed hard. He felt the aftereffects of the relief that had flooded him just seconds ago.

"Thank you," he said simply, although there was much more he could have said, wanted to say.

Liz gently kissed his cheek, then pulled back, her eyes shining.

"I still want to know what's for lunch," she hinted, giving him a sincere smile.

Lucky chuckled. He practically dove into the brown paper bag.

Liz groaned and laid back on the blanket. She patted her stomach.

"I ate way too much."

Lucky smiled down at her, cleaning up what remained of the chilled shrimp and cocktail sauce, pasta with baby shrimp, freshly tossed salad, and loaf of bread. They'd both pigged out, enjoying the seafood immensely.

Lucky removed the last evidence of the picnic and joined Liz on the blanket. He was lying on his stomach, and had propped his chin in his hands. Liz tilted her head to look at him.

"You're so sweet," she said, somewhat out of the blue.

Lucky's brows went up. "Was that your version of 'thanks for lunch'?"

Liz's lips formed a big smile. "No," was all she said. She used her stomach muscles to propell herself upward, and met Lucky's lips in a quick kiss.

He looked down into her face. Her eyes were warm and open. Her entire being radiated peace, if only for a while. A week, a month, an afternoon. Lucky decided that he definitely lived up to his name, in that he got to be the one to give her any ammount happiness she felt.

"Well?" Liz asked quietly, squinting a little in the sunlight.

"Well, what?"

"Are you going to kiss me or just keep staring?"

"Oh, I don't know...I kinda like the view from here."

Liz blushed. "I wasn't exactly complaining either," she reminded.

"Was that supposed to be a compliment?"

"No. Fishing, are we?"

"Maybe."

"Why didn't you say so?"

"Liz?"

"Mmm?"

"Shut up."

Lucky proceeded to drown himself in one of Liz's kisses. He was surprised when Liz's head lolled backwards. He looked down at her. She was fast asleep.

"I don't know if this is a good thing or not," he mumbled to himself, before sitting up and rumaging through his backpack yet again. This time he pulled out a large, and carefully folded, beach umbrella. He set it up above Liz, then sat near her head to keep watch.
