Stuart walks into the emergency room where Adam is being treated.
Dr. Mason, Dr. Joe and a nurse stand by Adam's bed.
Dr. Mason looks up, and does a double take.
Stuart: I’m Adam’s brother. Dr. Jensen said I could sit with him for a while.
Dr. Mason: Would you like to see your brother alone?
Stuart: Can I?
Dr. Mason looks at Dr. Joe. Dr. Joe considers for a moment.
Joe: I don’t think that should be a problem. Ann?
The nurse looks up from her charts.
Joe: Let’s go outside for a moment.
The nurse gives an encouraging smile to Stuart as she passes him. The three leave and Stuart is left alone with Adam.
Stuart: Adam?
Stuart goes to Adam’s bedside, tugging at his shirt.
Stuart: Can you hear me?
There’s no answer.

Colby’s room in pediatrics.
Jake is with Colby, watching her sleep.
There’s a knock on the door, and then Tad enters.
Tad (whispers): Hey! How’s she doing?
Jake (whispers): She’s fine. Just sleeping.
Tad (whispers): Of course she’s fine. You can’t keep a Martin down, right?
Jake smiles.
Jake (whispers): Right.
Tad (whispers): Well, when does our angel get to go home?
Jake (whispers): We need to keep her overnight for observation. But that’s just normal procedure. She’s fine.
Tad (whispers): Liza must be relieved.
Jake (whispers): I haven’t seen Liza since Colby was admitted.

The emergency room admitting area.
Dr. Joe is talking to Liza and Marian.
Dr. Joe: I don’t anticipate waiting too much longer, Liza.
Marian: Well, I should hope not, Joe. The Chandlers have given a small fortune to this hospital.
Liza: Mother.
Dr. Joe: I’m going to check on some other patients. I’ll be back with you in a moment.
Dr. Joe goes to leave, and then he turns back to Liza.
Dr. Joe: Liza, have you been examined yet?
Liza: The EMTs examined me, Joe.
Dr. Joe: Still, I’d like to take a look at you.
Liza: Sure. As soon as Adam goes in for his cat scan.
Dr. Joe nods, and goes to the admitting desk.
Marian: Liza, you have to take care of yourself. You need to keep up your strength.
Liza: Adam gives me strength, Mother. My daughter’s well-being gives me strength. Adam's lying in there, and I haven't been able to see Colby since she was admitted. So what do I have? Without them, nothing really matters.
Marian: Well, my daughter’s well-being gives me strength. Please take care of yourself.
Liza looks away towards Adam’s room.

Adam’s room.
Stuart is standing by the bed.
Stuart: Adam? It’s me...Stuart. If you can hear me, I just want you to know that I’m here. And I love you. I mean, I know you know I love you, but I think sometimes I say I love you because you’re my brother, and maybe you think that’s the only reason I love you. But, but...I love you because you’re you. I mean, sure you’re grouchy and sometimes plain old mean, but I know everything else that’s inside you. It’s kinda funny ‘cause everyone thinks I’m the good brother and you’re the bad brother. Or you’re the loud brother and I’m the quiet brother. But I can be loud and you can be real quiet. And I can be bad and you can be good. You’re a good man, Adam. And we all love you. So you gotta get well. Okay? Okay, Adam?
