Adam and Liza’s bedroom.
Adam and Junior are asleep in the bed.
Junior wakes up and sees Adam. He nudges Adam.
Junior: Hey, Dad! Dad, wake up.
Adam: I’m up.
Junior: I’m hungry.
Adam: Well, why don’t you go down and tell Lucretia what you’d like for breakfast? I’ll be down in a few minutes.
Junior: Sure. Is Liza coming?
Adam: I thought you hated Liza.
Junior: Dad, I’m hungry. Can we talk about this later?
Adam: Sure.
Junior leaves the room. Adam gets up and leaves the room as well.

The nursery.
Liza is asleep in the rocking chair.
Adam enters. He sees Liza sleeping and goes over to the crib.
Colby’s eyes open.
Adam (whispers): Hi.
Colby coos. Adam looks at Liza again, and goes over to the table in the nursery.
Adam (whispers): I know we’ve got to have one of those gadgets here. Now, where would your mommy put it?
Adam searches the table and finds a pacifier.
Adam brings it over to Colby, and puts it in her mouth. Colby sucks on the pacifier.
Adam looks at Liza, and then back at Colby.
Adam (whispers): I tell you what, young lady. I’ll be right back. Don’t do anything while I’m gone.
Adam goes to the rocking chair and picks Liza up in his arms. Liza’s eyes remain closed.
Liza (murmurs): Are they coming?
Adam (whispers): Who?
Liza (murmurs): I’m right here.
Adam realizes she’s sleeping. He begins to carry her from the room.
Adam (whispers): I know you are.
Liza (murmurs): Adam. Right here.
Adam takes her from the room.

Adam and Liza’s bedroom.
Adam carries Liza to the bed, and gently rests her down upon it.
Adam has another glimmer of a memory of Liza in bed, waking up.
Liza (in Adam’s memory): Hi.
Adam (in Adam’s memory): Hi.
Liza (in Adam’s memory): I didn't have my mouth open or anything, did I?
Adam (in Adam’s memory): You were beautiful.
Liza (in Adam’s memory): So were you. I was dreaming about you.
The memory leaves. Adam looks at Liza again.
She turns over and hugs a pillow.
Adam covers her with a blanket and leaves.

Chandler living room.
Adam and Junior sit on the couch eating breakfast. Colby is lying in a crib nearby.
Junior: I heard it was you, Liza and Colby. And that the car was pretty smashed up.
Adam: It was?
Junior: Yeah. But you got the worst of it ‘cause you were driving. I can come over everyday to help you remember.
Adam: Well, we’ll have to ask your mother about that.
The doorbell rings.
Junior: I’ll get it!
Junior jumps up and runs to the door.
Dixie enters.
Dixie: Well, look who I found.
Junior: Hi, Mom. We’re having breakfast.
Dixie: I can see that. You have jelly on your shirt.
Dixie looks over at Adam.
Dixie: Hello, Adam. How are you feeling? I hear you were up to your old tricks last night. Leaving someplace without telling anyone. A fine role model.
Junior: Aw, Mom.
Dixie: Aw yourself! I wouldn’t be so quick to sass me, Junior. We’re going to have a long talk about what you did last night.
Adam: Dixie, I’d like to talk to you about that.
Dixie looks at Adam.
Dixie: Really.
The doorbell rings again.
Junior: I’ll get it.
Junior begins to run to the door.
Dixie: No running!
Junior slows to a walk. He goes to the door and opens it. Derek is there.
Junior: Hi.
Derek: Hi, Junior. Can I come in?
Junior: Sure.
Derek enters the living room.
Derek: Hello, Dixie. Adam. Adam, is Liza around? I have a few loose ends to tie up about your car accident.
Adam: Can’t it wait? She’s sleeping.
Derek: Not really. I can only stay for a minute.
Adam looks over at Colby and then Dixie.
Adam: Dixie, would you mind?
Dixie: Of course not.
Adam: I’ll go get Liza.
Dixie: Junior, why don’t you go upstairs and collect your things? I hear you brought a knapsack last night.
Junior: Some spit brother!
Adam: Come on, son.
Adam and Junior go up the stairs.

Chandler living room. A short while later.
Liza comes down the stairs dressed, and joins Dixie and Derek.
Liza: Morning, Derek. Dixie. Can I get you some coffee?
Dixie: No, thank you.
Derek: Actually, I can only stay a minute, Liza. Will Adam be joining us?
Liza: He’ll be down in a minute. He’s “collecting” Junior.
Derek: All right. I guess I can start without him. This is about your accident. We performed an autopsy on the driver responsible for the crash --
The doorbell rings again.
Winifred comes out to answer the door. When she opens the door, Jake is there.
Jake: Hello, Winifred. Is Liza here?
Winifred: She’s in the living room, Mr. Martin, but she --
Jake: Thanks.
Jake enters the living room. He sees the crib and then looks up at everyone.
Jake: Liza. Oh, hello, Dixie. Derek. Am I interrupting?
Liza: Actually, Jake, we’re in the middle of something. Can this wait?
Jake: I just wanted to talk to you about the misunderstanding at the hospital.
Liza: Not a good time. I’m in the middle of something with Derek.
Derek: Well, like I said, this will only take a minute.
Adam begins to come down the stairs.
Derek: The toxicology report showed high blood alcohol levels in the driver’s system. As far as the police are concerned, there is no doubt that this is what caused your accident.
Adam finishes descending the stairs.
Adam: Blood alcohol?
Derek: Yes. It’s definitive evidence.
Adam turns to Liza.
Adam: I .... I .... I’m sorry, Liza.
Jake: You were drinking and driving? With an infant in the car?
Liza turns to answer Jake.
Adam: I’m sorry.
Adam begins to walk out of the house.
Liza: Adam! Adam, no!
Liza begins to follow Adam, but Jake stops her.
Adam leaves.
Jake: Liza, we have to talk about this.
Liza looks at Jake.
Colby begins to cry. Liza turns to Colby, and then to the door.
Liza pulls away from Jake and turns to Dixie.
Liza: Dixie, would you look after Colby for a few minutes? I have to go to Adam.
Jake: Dixie? That’s ridiculous. I’m here.
Liza looks at Dixie.
Dixie: I’ll stay. You can go.
Liza: Thanks.
Liza runs out the front door.
Dixie goes to Colby and picks her up.
Derek: I really need to be going. Have Liza call me if she has any questions.
Derek leaves.
Junior comes down the stairs.
Junior: Where’s Dad?
Dixie: He had to go out. Junior, would you run upstairs and get a diaper from Colby’s nursery?
Junior crinkles his nose.
Dixie: Junior.
Junior goes back upstairs.
Dixie jiggles Colby and turns to Jake.
Dixie: Jake.
Jake: What?
Dixie: What is the matter with you? You’re like a farmer’s old ornery dog, snapping when he’s getting fed, and not noticing that he doesn’t have any teeth.
Jake: What are you talking about?
Dixie: I’m talking about you! I’m talking about the fact that number one, Adam didn’t cause that accident.
Jake: But Derek said --
Dixie: Derek said the driver was drinking. The other driver. Can’t you just listen for five minutes before shooting your mouth off?
Jake: But Adam said --
Dixie: Yeah, well, I guess Adam doesn’t remember the accident. Because if there’s one thing I know about Adam -- and believe me, I know a lot, most of it bad -- he would never intentionally put a child of his in danger.
Jake: Like Anna Claire?
Dixie looks towards the stairs and begins to speak in hushed tones.
Dixie: Lower your voice.
Jake looks at the stairs and realizes that Dixie is concerned about Junior.
Dixie: Now, I don’t know all of the facts about Anna Claire. I can only tell you what I’ve seen up close.
Jake continues in a hushed tone.
Jake: Well, Tad says that Adam killed his own child.
Dixie: Jake, I don’t want to discuss this while Junior is in the house. I think we had enough trouble last night. Now, I think you should go, and wait a couple of days. Cool off, and then try to talk to Liza.
Jake: I’m missing time with my child.
Dixie: I know. I know it’s hard. But you have to think about the future here, and not go off half-cocked. Now, get a move on.
Jake considers what Dixie says.
He goes over to Colby, and kisses her.
Jake: Bye, princess. I promise I’ll be back to see you.
Jake leaves.

The boathouse.

Liza comes up the stairs, and Adam looks up at her.
