Harwinton Library, Burlington Rd, Harwinton, CT 06791, 860-485-1555. The library located on Burlington Road is the T.A. Hungerford Memorial Library. It served as Harwinton's only library until 1989 when the Harwinton Public Library on Bentley Drive was built. The Hungerford Library is now a wonderful museum which is open May-October on Saturdays, from 2-4 PM or by appointment.

Gurrie Rhoads has a copy of a book written in 1909 by E. Leroy Pond entitled The Tories of Chippeny Hill, Connecticut. It has been a valuable resource tool for me and might be for others as well. It deals primarily with the Tory families of the Harwinton area. Some names: Brooks, Graves, Nichols, Dunbar, Porter, Holcomb, Jerome, Jones, Matthews, Royce, Roe, Tuttle, Hickox, Gaylord, Rice, and others. I know that a copy of this book is already in the Bristol library, but perhaps I can look up information for those who can't get there.
