Welcome ... my name is Linda-Jeanne Dolby and I'm responsible for Litchfield County. I do not actually live in Litchfield County, but my roots are here and my interest in genealogy and the USGenWeb project in particular, have led me to volunteer my time. Please contact me if you would like to contribute in any way to this project or to adopt one of the towns located within Litchfield County to further develop the resources of that town. Any help will be appreciated.

Litchfield County is located in the NW part of CT; contains 921 sq mi; and the elevation ranges from approx 250 ft to 2380 ft. Litchfield County was named for Litchfield, England; created October 14, 1751 from Hartford and Fairfield counties.

Connecticut Notes:

• Was the 5th state admitted January 9, 1788 as one of original 13 states; Capital - Hartford; Motto - He who transplanted sustains us; Nickname - The Constitution State; Song - Yankee Doodle; Flower - Mountain Laurel; Tree - White Oak; Bird - Robin
• The flag was adopted in 1897. On a field of azure blue is an ornamental white shield with three grapevines, each bearing three bunches of purple grapes. The state's motto He who Transplanted Sustains Us is displayed on a white ribbon. The three grapevines are thought to represent the three settlements (New Haven, Saybrook and Connecticut) which came together to form the state.
