Day 1: Seattle, Canadian Border, Frazier River
The following is a trip that Cindy, Jacob and myself took in our Chevy S-10 during the summer of 97. We had never been there before and although I had the trip planned out, we did not know what to expect other than that it should be an interesting trip. We intended on going thru British Columbia, Yukon, Alaska, Queen Charlotte Islands, Vancouver Island and then home in two weeks. We were guessing this trip would take about 7500 miles.
We left Kent, WA at 3:00 p.m. and were stuck in a traffic jam in Seattle going only 50 miles in the first 2 hours. We finally did get to the border at 7:00 and they inspected the truck for 30 minutes before they would let us leave. We continued on Highway 1 and then drove along the Fraser river, passing Yale without stopping because it was late . This is a nice drive overlooking a large canyon while also driving thru several tunnels. We ate at a family restaurant at 10:00 p.m. in Boston Bar where they serve large hamburgers. We drove 300 miles and pulled over about 20 km south of Cache Creek at midnight.
