We left Misty Meadows early and headed South where we stopped at the Balancing Rock again, which
is off of the main highway on our way back. The tide was in and the rock was right next to the water
today, it made for a good picture.
We now stopped in Skidgate at the
museum that had a good display of Native art, totem poles, button coats
fossils and stuffed animals. There was also a class from Victoria College
that were going out into one of the canoes with one of the natives who had
builtd them. We also stopped at some gift storeas and then headed for
Rennel Sound around 12:30. We arrived at Gregory Beach around 3:00 and
this is where we had camped last year for one night. It is one of the nicest place
I have ever been. Last year the sun did not set until after 11:00 and you
would see eagles flying around the sound and fish would be jumping in the water.
The water is also warm as I stayed out in th water until past 11:00 last year.
I wished we could stay tonight but we had a boat to catch. I know I’ll come
back here again someday. I cooked lunch today and made up a meal
that consisted of chili. tomatoe sauce, black olives, artichokes, meatballs and
spinach. I was trying to get rid of as many cans as I could without ruining the meal.
It wasn’t that bad as everybody liked it, I think I’ll try it at home someday.
We left Gregory Beach at 4:30, not really wanting to but knowing we had a ferry to catch that night.
We stopped at Riley Beach Trail and followed a trail for about 20 minutes until we decided to turn back.
This trail goes through old growth forest
with lots of moss, ferns creek and a few old trees still standing. We found out later that this trail would have
taken one-hour one way. We stopped first at a camp sight to see if a carving of a eagle was still at the beach
as it was there last year just sitting on a log.
We started back and we made it up the steep hill no
problem. This hill is recommended for 4-wheel drive truck and should not be
taken when it’s raining without a 4-wheeler. I felt better after that as I was
still embarrassed about being stuck in the sand a couple days earlier. We ate
in Queen Charlotte City at Summerland’s which served Greek, and Pizza.
We ate outside as the food was good but the service was slow. We were in
line for the ferry at 9:30 p.m. and they started boarding at 10:00 p.m. and would leave at
11. We had a room this night to sleep in, we let Jacob go to sleep while Cindy
and I sat outside and finished leftovers with wine. It was warm
and clear skies on the way back. We went to bed around 12:00 after taking showers knowing we
would be woken up around 5:30 a.m.. That total cost for this round trip ferry ride with a room one night
for two adutls and child was $189. I drove 150 miles today and 6850 total for 15 days.
