Uplands Staff

This is where you can all chip in and help!

We are trying to put together a comprehensive list of Uplands staff (Principals, teachers, matrons, etc.) from 1955 onward. If you can remember any of your teachers and what they taught, please send the information to us. It would of course be wonderful if you are still in touch with them and have an email or postal address. Rest assured, we will check with them before posting either of their addresses on the net.

Mr. Peter Drury - Principal 1972-1984

I am posting an extract from Douglas Sumner's email.... I have managed to gain contact with Mr Drury. It was a pleasure to talk to him yet again after all these years..i must stop using my friend in the Military Police as apparently Mr Drury felt..

"You gave me a heart attack!! A policeman came knocking at the door and i thought i must have been caught speeding or breaking the law in some other way. Then he explained that you were trying to contact me so i could breathe again!!". Here is Mr Drury's address and phone number for your attention:

Douglas Sumner

Mr. Sunny Yeoh - Karate Instructor

Let Go Yoshida tell you in his words...(extract from Go's email):

"I came across this webpage that had passionate descriptions of Penang. Somehow, I decided to write to the webmaster to see if she could include our URL on her links section. Today, I received a reply from her telling me that I had contacted our ex-Karate instructor's wife, i.e. that I had contacted Sunny Yeoh's wife! Her URL is:

Surekha Raghavan

Surekha was a pupil in Uplands from 1977 to 1981, experiencing school in both Penang Hill and the Small Building on Kelawai Road. She then returned to teach (in the Large Building on Kelawai Road) English Language and English Literature for GCSE's from 1992 to 1996. She is the first person I know of to have attended all three Uplands Schools in one capacity or another!
