VISIT SINGAPORE! ![](/pictures/icons/flags/sg.gif)

|
The
Republic of Singapore has been our home for over 4 years now. Though we get an occasional
case of "island fever" and home-sickness for the United States, we have very
much enjoyed our stay here. Singapore is probably the cleanest and "easiest"
city in Asia - if not the world! Public Transportation is safe, reliable, and easy-to use;
everyone speaks English; ATM's and money-changers are always nearby; and the food and
water are safe (even at the open air "hawker stalls"). The biggest draw-back
from a tourist's perspective is a lack of cultural and historical attractions, though they
do exist if you look for them. |

What To
Do: |
Have a Singapore
Sling at Raffle's Long Bar. Shop for silk shirts and copy watches. Sample food from all
over Asia. Eat at a Hawker Stall. Visit Geylang (or Orchard Road after midnight) to see
the "other side of Singapore". Read "No Money, No Honey". Practice
Singlish - the Singapore version of English. Have a drink or meal at one of the 3 Bernie's
locations. |
Where to
Stay & Eat |
Food and
Singapore are basically synonymous. Some of our favorite restaurants are Bernie's for
American (and Drinks), Paulaner Brauhaus for German, Chapala's for Mexican, Athens for
Greek, Cleopatra for Meditteranean, Raffles Grill for Elegant, Long Beach for Singapore
seafood, Newton Circus for Local food, and Lao Beijing for Northern Chinese. Hotels tend
to be a bit pricy, so why not see if the Jim & Stacy B&B is open? We've also heard
that the Orchard Hotel is good, reasonably priced (US$150) and convenient. |
