I sit here contemplating my next journal entry for Environmental Ethics, and something from my day hits me. I was speaking with a friend of mine today, muttering about the usual things. I was telling him about the various classes that I am taking, and I mentioned Environmental Ethics. Well, he is frequently a snide individual, and he got this look on his face that told me that he has something interesting to say, but I also knew that I needed to allow him the time to tell it to me himself. "Hum… Environmental ethics? That sounds fun. Formulating the ethic of the environment, actually that sounds easy. Here. I’ll give you the answer for the course. The environment can not have an ethic. It is not a sentient thing. Ethics are the domain of living things, in particularly self-aware ones." Now, both he and I know that the course is not trying to determine the ethical theory by which the environment works, but every once in a while it is nice to step back and look at things from an entirely different perspective
