Kayatha Fields
        INFORMATION

You agree to walk with Magenta and begin to head for the stable building, where the animals still are playing. But Magenta does not move. She refuses to let you through, only explaining once you have stepped back. As she speaks, she walks with you around the perimeter fencing, skirting the stables widely.

"I'm sorry that I cannot allow you closer, but the Kayatha can have no human contact before adulthood, for fear that their extremely impressionable minds may become bias to one Candidate when it comes time for them to be fostered out. Here, let me tell you about our species instead...."

"The Kayatha are a species of equine - a very rare and often hunted species. Our fur seems to be prized among your people. But I do not sense such a purpose in you, or I would have sent you away rather violently at first sight. I am the Protector here, at the Kayatha Fields, where the young ones are brought by outlying herds to be raised and fostered out to other humans. The packs live in the woods, yonder." She points her graceful nose toward a all stand of trees far away over the stables and yards, barely visible in the slight fog that surround the grasslands. "We are a peaceful breed - none of our kind are warriors, though many of us enjoy rougher physical activities. A form of football has become very popular among the foals, male and female alike! The foals all live in that stable you can see now, waiting there until adulthood, learning and playing until they are old and wise enough to make a proper choice of owners. Right now, many of them have chosen natural professions, such as healing or forestry or farming...."

"Kayatha can live just about anywhere. We thrive in all sorts of areas, but often prefer the damp climate of marshlands. But a Kayatha's adaptability is its pride! We take all of life as a challenge and the foals find joy in moving away from this place when they are adults, to somewhere exotic and new. If you so choose to adopt one of us, then be sure to remember this. But be warned...do not put a Kayatha near large bodies of water, such as a beach..." She shudders at the thought. "Kayatha are severely aquaphobic, deathly afraid of large bodies of water. Swamps will suit, even land near a small creek, as all creature need water to survive, but oceans...or large rivers....are a definite thing to scare a poor Kayatha away!"

"There are also two other types of Kayatha, two other subspecies, if you will, besides the normal Kayatha, who have sent representatives down to tell us that young of their kind may be fostered here in the future. The Psychayatha are a very erratic breed, named for the often bright and psychodelic patterns of their fur. They prefer denselt populated areas and love to be around other animals all the time. The other new subspecies is the Peak Kayatha. The Peaks come from the herds that live near the summit of Thorn Mountain, many withing the Forbidden Zone near the top. They are large creatures with long fur and stocky, strong builds, meant for Tundra or very high mountain life. They are by far the roughest and strongest of our kind....." "So, travelor, do you feel you are ready and knowing enough to adopt one of our kind?"

A DEFINITE "YES," YOU ARE READY!
