The Basics:
Be on time and prepared for whatever game your playing in. This will
allow things to start and run smoothly for everybody.
Get all your questions out before a game starts so the DM can focus upon
the game when it starts and not on player messages.
During play take the role of your character and how he / she behaves.
Help create an enjoyable playing atmosphere for everybody by doing this. (Who knows, you
could snag a few extra XP for doing it).
If while playing, you find yourself needing to say something out of
character, send a message to the person you need to send it to, or put it in ( ) or any
other acceptable method your DM prefers. This will help lessen confusion during play.
If your foolish enough to get in a disagreement with another player that
doesn't involve your characters, please take the problem to another (preferably empty)
channel, discuss your problems rationally in private messages, or simply ignore the other
person, so everybody else isn't bothered by the outburst.
If your going to quote rules the first thing you should do is MAKE SURE
YOUR RIGHT you sound completely stupid if your wrong, and nobody will appreciate the
outburst. Another thing to do is wait until the end of the game, or the before the next
time you play to bring up your opinion of the offending rule. There could always be a
reason why somebody choose to overlook, or to twist a rule. DMs are particular well noted
for doing this in order to futher advance game play in a (usually) positive way (which the
players may not be aware of).
Remember your fellow players are present in a game to have fun also.
Don't forget to give them a chance to play out stuff and be in the spot light every once
in a while, plus remember, it is easier to kill a monster than it is to kill a mob of
angry players, so try not to annoy and anger your fellow players (I've seen a few times
where as a DM I just stepped back and let players vent some anger out on a player
character who was really being "unsocial").
