PREFACE
"Rainbow Six is by far one of the most kick-ass games we'll see released this year! There's no doubt about it, Rainbow Six is the Tom Clancy game we've all been waiting for…" Rod White, PC Multimedia and Entertainment
"I've never seen more realistic environments or more fluid and convincing character animations than those in Rainbow Six," Bill Trotter, PC Gamer
Red Storm Entertainment led the FPS genre of gaming in a new direction when they released Rainbow six in E3 of 98. Their decision to make a tactical FPS based on the real world aspect of combat where one shot kills was a bold move that goes against the guns blazing rampage style of past titles.
SINGLE PLAYER
Rainbow six is one of the few FPS's that actually has an in-depth plot that is designed to resemble real-world situations. Rainbow six is by far the best tactical simulation to date, and is also ranked among the best action games of 98. The story line in offers the game an enormous amount of potential and Red Storm did an excellent job of producing a single player game that lives up to even the most lofty of expectations.
AI is excellent. On easy skill level the terrorists are worthy opponents when the player is faced with the "one shot kill" factor. The harder skill levels offer the player a challenge that rivals that posed by human adversaries although no AI can reproduce the unpredictability of a human. The AI did display several bugs that at times proved to be somewhat irritating, such as team members getting stuck in doorways and on ladders. These problems were rarely encountered and the game usually runs smoothly.
The roster is composed of 20 team members, however, the maximum team size for any mission is 8. Each team member has a bio along with ratings on personal attributes/skills ranging from the amount of aggression or self-control the member exhibits to how skilled he/she is with firearms or demolitions. It is necessary to take into account each members qualifications when in the planning phase before the mission. If this aspect is overlooked the players team may perform poorly in combat and fail to work together throughout the mission. Greatly increasing the risk of casualties or even failure to complete the mission.
