Dear Sir,
Thank you very much for your letter and information.
I read your letter and thought the followings;
(By the way, I worked at foreign student affairs section in Nagoya ...)
Some Evangelion fans know "Neon Genesis Evangeion" consists of 26 TV series and 3 movie pictures.
As you know, original TV series ended on March 1996.
Just after the ending, GAINAX, a famous anime production at Musashino city, Tokyo, began to remake the anime for Laser disc.
However Evangelion was blamed by Japanese PTAs in 1996 for sexual intercourse scene and violence scene. They GAINAX had to remake Evangelion.
Several months after Kaworu Nagisa, the last Angel, began to be popular. Some journalism dealt with 24th, 25th and 26th episodes of Evangelion. Then Eva-fans increased. On the other hand, GAINAX had published LDs of some episodes little by little.
They GAINAX wanted to remake 20th-26th episodes. At last they decided to make a movie for remaking 25th and 26th episodes in autumn 1996.
The movie "Death/Rebirth" was released in March 1997.
At the movie, Asuka began to move again and 9 mass production model EVA units came. But Asuka did not fight against those EVA units yet.
In July 1997, the second movie "Air/ I need you" was released. In the movie, Evangelion story ended. Director Anno and Producer Ootuki (King Records) asked Eva-fans to stop loving Evangelion. Then a certain newly-founded religious party utilized Eva films for their propagation.
However Director Masayuki working for GAINAX made a minor arranged movie "Death true" for WOWOW station in January 1998. Then they remade the first movie.
Toei released the third movie "Revival of Evangelion" in March 1998. The movie consisted of "Air/ I need you" and "Death (true)2," a minor arranged movie of "Death true."
As you know, those 3 movie and one minor change are not released as LDs for sale.
Of course, 23th - 26th episodes of TV series are not released yet.
