Moonwind
Moonwind K’Vala is the child of Starsinger and Moonshine K’Vala. She has one sister, Brightwing, two years younger and an accomplished scout. She also has one brother, Songlight, also a scout. She moved out of the family ekele at fifteen, and has been living on her own for three years. She has remained emotionally close to her family, even though they are physically separated.
Moonwind bonded with Flurr, a red-shouldered hawk, at the young age of eight. She was first trained as a scout, but was apprenticed as a Mage when her power became evident at ten.
Moonwind achieved full Adept status on her eighteenth birthday, four months ago. However, she still practices as a scout, and is a valuable asset to the clan. She has a sense of Magic not unlike that of Darkwind K’Sheyna, and will only use the minimum amount of power needed to get the job done.
Tall and slender, Moonwind has clear-cut aquiline features that give her the appearance of being calm and serene when she actually isn’t. Her translucent skin is a light gold under normal circumstances, but scouting patrols usually leave her with a deep tan. Moonwind’s silver-blue eyes stand out in her face. They are honest and frank, and can look deeply into one’s soul.
Her silver-white hair hangs to the base of her spine. Her favorite hair arrangement is the French braid, because it suits all occasions. When she is inside the Vale, her hair flows down her back in a french braid that becomes a regular ponytail at the base of her neck. This style keeps her hair out of her face, but is not too severe. When she’s purely relaxing, her silver mane sometimes hangs free, with two small braids by her ears, framing her face. When she is on scouting duty, however, it is bound into a tight french braid, and then pinned of the top of her head. No tendrils escape to flutter in the breeze, or catch on outstretched twigs.
During the summer, spring and fall, she dyes her hair mottled brown and green, to blend with the foliage, but in winter, it stays silver-white. When not in scouting gear, Moonwind’s clothing reflects the colors of the season. White and silver shines in the winter light. Bright, vibrant colors represent the life and energy of summer. Pale pastels reflect the soft return of life in spring, and reds, browns and golds harmonize with the falling leaves of autumn. Moonwind’s favorite color is purple, in any shade, and she wears that and other cool colors, green, blue, teal, etc. as often as she can.
Moonwind is generally quiet, and given to making a few close friends, rather than always being in a crowd. She keeps her friends forever, and hates to fight with those that she is close to. Her lovers generally come from the ranks of her friends, and never become enemies after the feathers are returned. She has no enemies inside K’Vala, and there is no one in the clan that can honestly say that they don’t like her.
Moonwind is a serious young woman(but she does have a sense of humor!), only eighteen, who devotes herself to helping the animals that live outside the Vale. She is the protector of all the animals in the clan, and communicates with them through animal mindspeech. After a long day of scouting and/or magery, she can usually be found in the hot springs with one or more of her friends.
Moonwind is an extremely powerful mage, with some mind-healing. She is also gifted with human and animal mindspeech, farsight, and a touch of empathy. She loves the trees, and is almost never on the ground when scouting. She is moderately good with a sword, and her archery, though not up to expert level, is perfectly adequate.
Moonwind is an artist, she makes jewelry, hair clasps and bracelets, and has a beautiful, clear, flute-like voice, that she does not need to be persuaded to use. She is also an expert dancer and a swift runner. She spends a great deal of time running the woods with the dyheli and cooking food that no one will eat(her cooking skills leave something to be desired).
Her ekele is 100 paces in, and 50 paces to the left as soon as you enter the Vale, hidden in the trees. Not 60 paces away is the Heartstone, and near that are the main hotsprings in the Vale.
Windstar
Windstar is the child of Dawnseeker and Skyfire K’Vala. He has one sister, Nightsinger, five years older and a minor mage and scout. Windstar has one ekele outside of the Vale that he lives in for about nine months of the year. His sister has an ekele inside the Vale, and Windstar lives with her for the winter months. Their family is not very close, and the children are very independent from their parents.
Windstar is bonded to Lyrri, a perlin falcon. They have been together for eight years, since he was eleven. His Mage-gift is minor, only Journeyman level. Trained as a scout for four years, he underwent Mage-training at the age of 14.
Windstar was ranked as a Journeyman a year and a half ago. He still works as a scout though, because his Mage-gift is too minor to make a major difference in a company of mages. He is an expert at finding ways to accomplish things using limited power, and is a very effective Mage, despite his low power level.
Tall, thin and muscular, Windstar’s features are strong, though not particularly aquiline. His face is deeply tanned and weathered, but still holds a young freshness. Since Windstar has minimal mage power, his eyes have yet to lighten. They are large and colored a deep, dark blue. He strongly resembles his plains cousins, the Shin’a’in.
Windstar has short hair, hanging only to his shoulders. It is difficult to know the true color, for it is often dyed forest colors, or white, in winter. On the rare occasion that it is undyed, it is red and brown streaked with white. To tie it up, Windstar creates many small braids, and winds them into a small knot on the back of his head. It is a very practical style, and is not too elaborate for him to do without the help of hertasi. At festivals and celebrations, he leaves it hanging, but with a braided browband across the forehead, ornamented with feathers and beads. The beads are generally neutral colors, but contrast with his costume.
Windstar wears scout clothing as much as possible, even when not on patrol. He finds it less confining and more comfortable than mage costumes. When forced to dress up, he will wear mage robes, but they are usually the same colors as his scouting gear. He also wears the smallest amount of ornamentation possible. This usually consists of feathers. They are old primaries of Lyrri’s, and decorated in neutral colors like the costumes. Sometimes he wears small pieces of jewelry created by his lover, Moonwind.
Windstar is very social, and loves being in the middle of many people. However, he has few close friends. Since he has few relationships that are serious, he enjoys equally the company of one or many. His outgoing nature is inviting, and almost the opposite of Moonwind’s personality. He is always willing to try new things in casual relationships, and will often create new relationships just to experiment with someone or something new.
The lively nineteen year old has a strange, sarcastic sense of humor, and spends much time with Moonwind. They are almost inseparable, because they share scouting duties. Although Moonwind prefers the company of only her close friends, she will often be found drifting around at gatherings that Windstar attends. However, Windstar does not share in Moonwind’s enthusiastic care of animals, and will find other occupations when her thoughts turn in that direction.
Windstar has an average amount on Mage-gift, and some mindspeech. Because he is not majorly Gifted with mind-magic, he spends much time developing physical talents. He is an expert in any weapon used by the Tayledras, but he prefers the curved climbing stick, as he can fight with it, and also use it to climb the trees on his scouting route.
Windstar is an athlete, and spends much free time training his body. He is a moderately good dancer and musician. He enjoys performing, and often persuades Moonwind to put on performances for the rest of the clan with him. She sings, and he plays the harp.
Windstar’s ekele is a half mile away from the Vale, to the southeast. His sister’s, where he spends the winter months, is at the very back of the Vale, at the extreme right, hidden in a clump of trees(Nightsinger is not a very social person).
