Robotech is the story of an alien battleship which crashlanded in the year 1999 on Macross-Island. After that the governments of earth formed one nation to face a possible threat from space. They began to research and repair the alien spaceship. During the time of the repairing and researching of the ship a city with 70000 inhabitants arose around the spaceship. Eleven years later the wreck was repaired and ready for flight. To celebrate that an airshow was made under the leadership of Lt. Commander Roy Fokker. But the Airshow was disturbed by Rick Hunter and his private plane. Rick knew Roy Fokker from the flying circus of his father where Roy flew before he participates at the SDF-1-project. So Roy forgot this incident relative fast and showed Rick one of the new veritech fighter (alien technologie is called Veritech). While Roy is doing that an alien fleet appeared in space and started an attack. The SDF-1 Macross as the crashlanded spaceship is called now activated itself and fired it´s heavy cannon, destroys two alien cruisers and dewastated half of Macross-Island. All the fighter pilots got the order to start and so Rick was left back alone by Roy in the veritech fighter. From the Bridge of the Macross he got the order to start and attack the alien invaders. Without knowing how to flew this fighter Rick started it and tried to attack. Last he was hit by an alien fighter and crashed into the restaurant of Lynn Minmei´s parents which lies in the city on Macross-Island. Short before he crashed into the city the fighter transformed into a big roboter. So Rick and Lynn got known to each other. When the battle against the alien fighters was won Roy helped Hikaru getting control back over his Battleroid how the transformed fighter is called by the militay. Meanwhile the civilian inhabitants of the city were brought to shelters, Lynn Minmei, her brother and her parents, too. But Minmei realized that she has forgotten her Diary and ran back to the city. In this moment Zentraedi (the alien race) troops invade the island. Fortunatelly Roy and Rick were in the right moment there when Minmei got in danger. Rick took her in the hand of his Battleroid in Gerwalk mode and escapes with her. On their fly to the Macross they discovered that the Zentraedis are 15 meter high and human looking are. When Rick and Minmei got back on the Macross with Roy, the captain, Gloval, activated the engines for a hyperspace jump behind the moon but the hyperspace jump brought them instead of behind the moon behind Pluto. And with the Macross the whole Macross-Island with the city and the shelters. Rick and Minmei got lost in the hull of the Macross. The Hyperspace engine vanished during the jump so that the Macross had to use the normal engines built on earth which couldn´t make a hyperspace jump. Captain Gloval began just after the jump with the evacuation of the 70000 people on board the Macross in which they could rebuilt their city. After twelve days Rick and Minmei were rescued out the hull. Now the Macross had to begin the long way back to earth...
