Why should I seek out Assemble Insert?
Assemble Insert is funny and well drawn and animated. For new anime fans it
offers a good introduction to comedic anime and for experienced fans it is
a good send-up of many 1980's anime shows as well as Japan's idol culture.
For lovers of J-Pop music the 2 episodes contain no less than 6 songs, all
of which are entertaining. The opening credits and opening theme are
particularity good. The two episodes also form a complete story so they are
not difficult to collect and enjoy on either tape or laserdisc.
Is Assemble Insert suitable for all ages?
Yes! Although adult anime gets the bulk of media attention over here only a
tiny fraction of anime titles are adult in nature. Assemble Insert has no
nudity or serious violence and there would be no trouble in airing it on
US or Canadian TV unedited. The series is suitable for all ages although
some of the jokes may go over the heads of some children (although not in
a bad way).
How can I get Assemble Insert?
Assemble Insert has not been released commercialy in North America. A fansub
is a VHS copy of a Japanese only laserdisc that has had English subtitles
added to it using a computer. These fansubs are distributed at no profit by
a number of fan based groups in Canada and the United States. Here is a list
of some fansub pages who distribute copies of Assemble Insert; please
follow all rules contained on the individual pages.
You could also ask for a fansub of Assemble Insert at your local anime club.
Established fans of Assemble Insert can buy the original Japanese laserdiscs
which will play on any North American laserdisc player. There is, to the
best of my knowledge, no planned DVD release of Assemble Insert and I doubt
that there ever will be. The catalogue information of the laserdiscs is as
follows:

Are there any CD's available from Assemble Insert?
The is at least one CD available from Assemble Insert; it was released in
March of 1990. I have no details as to its availability.
Why did you make an Assemble Insert Page?
Assemble Insert is not my favourite anime series, there are many that I like
more but this is a very good series that prior to the creation of this page
did not have any resources devoted to it on the internet. Many anime shows
like Ranma 1/2, Tenchi Muyo, and Sailor Moon have hundreds of pages devoted
to them, most of which offer little or no new information and are composed
of little more then stolen pictures and plagerised or incorrect informaiton.
I wanted to devote an information page to a little known but high quality
series and I choose Assemble Insert.
Why the lame page format?
The internet is flooded with pages that are all flash and no substance. I
wanted to create a page that offers new information as well as comprehensive
coverage of a single series and low load time. I took inspiration from
Hitoshi Doi's incredible internet resource pages and made a basic but
complete collection of information relating to Assemble Insert. All this and
the fact that I probably couldn't make a better page if I wanted to.
Just what does Assemble Insert mean anyway?
The phrase Assemble Insert is not a translation of the title it is the
actual title of the Japanese show/comic. Assemble Insert does not really
refer to anything in the story (it could have something to do with the
various powered suits in the show) but I suspect that the author chose the
title because the Japanese find English titles to be "cool". Yuuki, the
creator of Assemble Insert, has created a variety of other manga, the
majority of which all have English words in their titles. This is the best
explanation I can come up with.
What else has Yuuki Masami, the creator of Assemble Insert, created?
Yuuki is responsible for several other manga series including Mobile Police
Patlabor, Tetsuwan Birdie, Taja Uma Groomin Up, and Ultimate Superman R.
I liked Assemble Insert, are there any other similar shows out there?
Aside from Yuuki's other works which have some things in common with
Assemble Insert there are several other shows which have similar elements
including: Project A-ko, Idol Project, Moldiver, Ariel, Fairy Princess Ren,
and Prefectural Earth Defence Force.
