Secret Weapon Statistics

Well, a few nights ago (end of June, 1997), someone at Simultronics goofed. For a short period, whenever anyone DREW their sword they would get a strange data string; upon closer examination, this proved to be the secret stats of the weapons! This data is normally supposed to be secret, but it accidentially got into the grubby hands of the players   ;)

Unfortunately, since there's no context, we're not certain exactly how to refrence the statistics. I'm going to present them, what I think they represent, and how they compare to the data we get when we apraise an item in-game.

First, the "key" to the DRAW "appraisals". Most of this is pretty simple deduction.

BAL:
The balance of the weapon (The sword seems fairly balanced...). Higher seems to be better.
PW:
The power of the weapon; how much it can derive from your strength (...and seems reasonably suited for strength). Higher seems to be better.
PUN:
Puncture damage of the weapon. Higher is better.
IMP:
Impact damage of the weapon. Higher is better.
SLI:
Slice damage of the weapon. Higher is better.
WT:
Weigth of the weapon. After discussion with a few people who have weighed the weapons in-game, it's agreed that the units are in tenths of a pound; I.E., a WT score of 33 would mean the weapon would weigh 3.3 pounds. Keep in mind that 1 pound = about 50 copper coins, so 1 WT unit = about 5 copper coins.
And now, here's the weapon statistics exactly as they were presented at the time. The list isn't long, but hopefully more people who saved the data will donate it.

Weapon Statistics
Weapon Name BAL PW PUN IMP SLI WT
Gleaming Longsword 30 60 10 25 35 33
Jade-hilted Hanger 40 50 7 14 30 31
Elven Longsword 45 50 10 25 27 28
Razor-edged cutlass 45 45 5 5 30 35
Darkened Steel Stiletto 80 10 20 3 0 8
Straight-bladed Scimitar 40 50 7 14 30 45
Scimitar 40 50 7 14 30 31
Misericorde 90 10 20 2 2 12
Heavy-bladed Scimitar 30 60 7 14 30 41
Weighted Scimitar ("old") 40 50 5 15 40 41
Broadsword 40 50 10 20 35 35
Vicious Rapier 70 20 30 4 15 25
Rapier 80 10 25 4 10 18
Brown Skinning Knife 50 10 8 2 5 9
Silver Carving Knife... 50 10 10 0 5 9
Gold-hilted Greatsword... 20 80 12 55 75 100
Battered Black Broad... 40 50 10 20 35 35
Please note for refrence that the "Silver Carving Knife..." is actually a "a silver carving knife with the Ranger's Guild crest engraved in the handle", the "Gold-hilted Greatsword.." is actually "a gold-hilted greatsword with a World Dragon engraved down the blade", and the "Battered Black Broad..." is actually a "Battered Black Broadsword".

This chart proves that individual damage categories can have a range of possible values, and the total range for all categories (except WT) seems to be 0-100. Compare a broadsword and a scimitar, for example. Both appraise as "moderate" slicing weapons, but the broadsword has a SLI score of 35 compared to the scimitar's SLI of 30.

The following is an attempt to group the numbers into the categores we know. This is hardly going to be precise (escecially at the higher damages, which I had less samples for), but it is as accurate as possible. Where I had to make a guess (from lack of an example in that category) I added "?" after the number. Thanks to Tzaar@aol.com for help on arranging the numbers.

Some other comments I'd like to add. Most notably, these may not be the only factors that go into a weapon. For example, some weapons seem to cause an inordinate number of critical hits, and others seem to skin better then most. This may be the work of some factor that wasn't revealed by this bug. Weight also seems to affect impact damage, but to what degree is uncertain. Secondly, everything presented here (except for the statistics taken directly from the game) are CONJECTURE, and may or may not be correct. The best effort was put into making them accurate, but if you suspect an error, feel free to e-mail me, Sarazak. I'd also like to thank Wyldchyld6@aol.com for providing most of the data examples.
