HEY, HERE WE ARE AT QUESTER'S PAGE 9 OF THE PICTURE GALLERY
The Taoist thought of the day:
The Taoist ideal is to solve problems through peaceful means. Non-action. The foolish expend a great deal of energy and time trying to do everything and end up achieving nothing. On the other end of the spectrum, the truly wise don't seem to do much at all and yet achieve whatever they want. This magic is possible, indeed unavoidable, when one is in tune with the Tao.
More and more this woman makes
my life a paradise. She always has a sunny face.
Also, her fresh ideas carry us forward into future adventures.
With family such as Philip and Beehoon just minutes away
we celebrated little Michael's birthday when it rolled around every year.
We loved taking the birthday boy across the street from the Corpus Christi waterfront to the local Wattaburger.
Waldenbooks had us do a booksigning.
This was exciting for us since it was our first book.
What type of work can be found in Port Aransas? Unless you are good at fishing, very little. Once in a long while they do produce oil-well drilling platforms such as you see here.
Before they began building houses by the dozen around us
this was the way our beachhouse stood out.
It also needed a good first painting.
Wouldn't you know it?
About the time I got accustomed to seeing the gulf out our kitchen window a forest of poles appeared.
Soon that great view would be restricted to the up stairs bedroom.
Then along came hurricane Bret.
We got so much rain down through the garage a portion of ceiling came down and smashed the windshield of the Cadillac.
Did we still fish
after leaving the boat?
Once more we drove the fifteen hours to Tucson. We were invited to stay at my friend Bill's place.
The best part of his house is the location above and out of busy Tucson. It did have its own jacuzzi. Down below is a rather exclusive country club golf course. One of my best friends during my twelve years of being a professional bachelor was the owner. He let us stay here when we visited Tucson. We did love his place. It was the only round house I've ever lived in.
This is Trudy
looking up from her position wondering what her husband is going to do next.
Back in Tucson we once again came across an artist who loved to paint the side of buildings. Speaking of which we also have our artists in Port Aransas.
Yes, the beachlife is good for any person's retirement. All of these pictures made for an interesting camera activity.
What can be more fun than recording some great graffito?
This year of '97 Trudy went back to Sarawak again to visit her mother.
I had to amuse myself with friends I made stage acting. We pretended to take over city hall.
I even found good reasons to dress up and go out looking for other adventures.
Again Trudy went back to Malaysia for an emergency visit.
Her mother was experiencing some poor health. While she was gone Port Aransas had their annual sandsculpture contest.
One of the best ones of course was a nude.
The storyteller also was a great piece of work.
Occasionally, during the year when no contest was being held, someone would do a figure. I thought this one was very good.
I wouldn't mind being as handy with a bucket of sand.
Then the event of the year took place. I'm far left...stooping a little.
That's right, as you can tell by the age of the participants, it was our 50th high school reunion.
One of the highlights of the get-together was a riverboat trip down the Grand River. It flowed within a block of where I lived during high school. In fact during the winter I use to ice skate on it. In the spring it sometimes flooded our front and back yard!
The trip back to Michigan gave us opportunity
of seeing our close relatives as well as friends. Sharon, Ken, Leslie, and myself. Ken and Leslie are my brother and sister.
These are my brother's two daughters, Shannon and Kimberly. As you can see my brother was a barber.
He had his own shop and that meant that most of his life he worked standing on his feet. That would be hard work for most of us.
We left the Grand Rapids area of Michigan
and drove through the upper peninsula to my sister's place just over the line in Wisconsin. She lives in picturesque Land O'Lakes.
By now Cassie was growing out of puppyhood, but not quite. My mother had a doll collection that was rather fantastic.
She gave expensive collector's dolls to all her grandchildren including my two daughters. She also gave Trudy a doll and wouldn't you know it, my sister had a rather large doll she gave to me. It's eyes weren't working properly. When I got it back to Port A I took it apart and actually made them work properly. Never thought I was a doll "doctor", but my eye-operation did work.
Here we find Cassie coming into her own.
We sent this picture off to the Corpus Christi newspaper and they actually printed it.
Now it was time that we go back to Tucson
and get my first hip replacement. Before long we would be back for the second one. Now, when I go through an airport I set off all kinds of alarms!
