FIRST ANNUAL REPORT OF ST. LAWRENCE OLD BOYS’ ASSOCIATION : December 31, 1985

Before I place the Annual Report of our association for the year ended 31st December1985, let me express my sincere gratitude to you for giving me and other members of  the Governing Body the opportunity to serve the Association during the first crucial year, a year of consolidation and solidarity. The first few years of any organisation being the incubation period are always riddled with initial teething problems and financial constraints, but I am happy to announce that we could make a modest start and take up some activities worthy of our cause.

The Annual Tea Party of the old boys was held on 1st December 1985 with traditional enthusiasm and gaiety. It was a success though the participation of the old boys was little less than expected. You will also be happy to know that the event could be organised with the sole help of ex-Lawrencians. The Association has successfully started a free charitable dispensary in the school premises operating every Sunday,  from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Thanks to the untiring efforts of our doctor members - Dr. Soumitra Kumar, Dr. C.P. Anand, Dr. Bibhash Kanti Nandy, Dr. Dilip Todi, Mr. Bhaskar Pal and help extended by Mr. Ranjit Dey of Dey’s Medical Stores Pvt. Ltd., Dr. K. Pattanayak and Dr. Manojit Mukhopadhyay, it has already earned a good reputation amongst the weaker sections of the local community and we are treating on an average, twenty patients every Sunday.

1987 being the Golden Jubilee Year, the Association has decided not to take any new project in hand, but to extend its full co-operation to the Jubilee Committee to make preparations for the celebrations.

As for the progress made by us in regard to membership, a total of eleven life-members and thirty annual-members were registered during the year under consideration. The Governing Body met six times during the year.

Our sincere thanks to those Lawrencians who have given us the much-needed support in the initial stages. In this context, I also wish to express our gratitude to Fr. Rector, who is taking keen interest in our activities and has been the guiding spirit behind the smooth functioning of the Association.

Thanks are also due to M/s. B. Chhawchharia & Co., who were kind enough to audit the accounts for the financial year 1985-86, free of cost.

Before I conclude, I appeal to all Lawrencians to strengthen the Association by enrolling themselves as life-members. And, since preparations for the Golden Jubilee are already under way, I shall end with the sincere belief that all of you will come forward and join hands with us in making the Jubilee Year a grand and memorable success.

The report had no name and so we can only speculate that the "I" is none other than the then secretary Dr. Subrata Das. Fr. Bruylants was the President and Mr. P. Neogi was the treasurer as given in the accompanying Balance Sheet : Editor.

We have since then dropped the expression Ex-Lawrencian. A Lawrencian is
always a Lawrencian : Web author.
