Aerith Gainsborough is a beautiful and somewhat mysterious young woman running a flower shop in the Sector 5 Slums of Midgar. She seems perfect in every single way--she's pretty, nice, sweet, caring.... When Aerith first bumps into Cloud in the street after his bombing mission with Avalanche, she instantly falls in love with him (...for a certain reason which I can't tell you, 'cause it's somewhat of a spoiler...you'll just have to figure it out for yourself if you don't know already ^_^).
Not too long later, she meets him again in the church where she tends a flower garden. Right after Cloud agrees to act as Aerith's bodyguard in exchange for a date, Reno enters the church and tries to capture her, referring to her as the "Ancient." Aerith and Cloud manage to escape from him and return to Aerith's house in the slums. However, despite Cloud's attempts to keep Aerith from getting involved with Avalanche, she soon becomes caught up in their battle against the Shinra Corporation and Sephiroth.
