The Fleurieu is a favourite venue for cyclists due to its ease of access, gentle terrain, spectacular and diverse scenery, dedicated bike ways, regular service centres and the opportunities that the Peninsula offers for relaxation and discovery.

Bike hire is available at various Fleurieu towns such as Yankalilla, Victor Harbor, Goolwa, Normanville, Noarlunga and Strathalbyn. Of course you may prefer to bring your own bikes with you.

There are several itineraries you may like to try, from  three hour rambles to day trips and  extended rides for the fit and adventuresome.  Here are our suggestions:

    Beaches and Wineries Tour

See spectacular cliffs, beaches, vines and almonds. Pass  numerous wineries, restaurants and cafes. Many galleries that reflects the creativity of the district

This 52k ride begins at Noarlunga, crosses Onkaparinga River and follows the coastal road past spectacular cliffs. At Moana, you turn down to the world famous nudist beach Maslins, and then follow the coast road on to Port Willunga.  Join the sealed bike path from Willunga to McLaren Vale. Detour into Old Noarlunga, one of the oldest settlements in the area. Then follow River Road along the northern side of the Onka River back to where you began this invigorating trip.

    Ngarrindjeri Bikeway

Click the parrotThis sealed pathway is shared with walkers and roller bladers and is suitable for the whole family who can enjoy wholesome healthy fun riding between the Bluff at Victor Harbor and Port Goolwa. This  bikeway is suitable for all levels of cycling from toddlers to the elderly. Its about 15kms and can be accessed from many points along the way. This is a wonderful way to spot the Southern Right whales, which can be seen to advantage during the winter months (May - Sept).

    Hindmarsh Island Tour

See the spot where in 1830, Captain Sturt first sighted the Murray River mouth. See the wetlands that host waterfowls

You can take your bike on the free punt to access the Island and this 25k ride. Proceed along along the north side of the island to Narnu Bay. There you turn left along the main road to the southern side of the Island and follow the signs to the Murray River Mouth lookout. From this spectacular experience its easy to retrace your steps back to your friendly ferry man navigating the punt.

    Strathalbyn and the Hills Tour

A 38km, four hour ride from Strathalbyn will take you into the hills up the Ashbourne Road climbing several kms to the Gemmill Hill Lookout. Its worth the push when you see the view over to Lake Alexandrina and the sand dunes of the Coorong National Park. Continue along this gum tree lined road past the Strath Golfcourse to Ashbourne where you'll find pub meals and fresh fruit. Follow the winding Bull creek road upwards through the valley in the  Meadows direction. Then onto Paris Creek with a string of picturesque dams frequented by water fowl, ruins, farms and great vistas as the road descends and winds almost continuously back to Strathalbyn.
