Yankalilla  nestles in the valley of the Bungala River, overlooked by the wooded hillsides of the southern Mount Lofty Ranges. A place to visit for its country pace of life and friendly people, away from the hustle and bustle. Explore this historic town and discover its many hidden surprises, with a stroll along the tree-lined streets, its rural architecture, colourful cottage gardens, art craft and antique shops and a library for the bookworms. If you are feeling energetic, there is golf, tennis, bowls, horse-trail riding and other activities to suit your moods. The Agricultural Museum is worth a visit and Sister Mary MacKillop's first school house is now a Bed & Breakfast establishment. The countryside ranges from unspoilt native scrub to green rolling hills with a coast that changes from rugged, towering cliffs to  quiet swimming beaches and coves such as Carickalinga and Wirrina.
There are boat ramps at Wirrina, Cape Jervis and there are plenty of first class fishing, scuba diving and surfing spots along the coast. There are several National Conservation Parks, the main one being Deep Creek, where native animals roam freely, it has plenty of sightseeing and marked bushwalking trails.
At Talisker Conservation Park, are the remains of silver and lead mines that date back to the 1960s. Mining history is esplained on information boards, but be very careful of old mine shafts in the area.

Be on the lookout in the towns for local goumet specialities, in particular the high quality fresh fruit and vegetables often available at roadside stalls.

Galloway Farm  is about 16 kilometres from Yankallila on the road to Victor Harbor. There are a series of dams stocked with thousands of tiny crayfish.

Inman Valley
At the heart of the Southern Fleurieu is one of South Australia's most beautiful areas - take a leisurely scenic drive, meandering along the Inman River amongst majestic gums and rolling hills ... roadside stalls supply fresh local produce.  Call in for a Devonshire tea, lunch or evening meal, stay overnight, and enjoy a game of golf, petanque or tennis, fish for yabbies and visit one of the largest glacial exposures in the world. You may like to take a bushwalk along the famous Heyson Trail.
Rapid Bay
Colonel Light, SA's founding father, stepped ashore in the new colony here. He engraved the date and his initials into a boulder that is now incorporated within a beach side monument. Until recent times Rapid Bay was a centre for limestone mining and its long wharf is now a famous and popular spot for fishing. Caves and beachside camping make it an interesting stopover.

Myponga

A small township situated 65 km south of Adelaide. It is an important farming centre with rich pastures and dairy farming. Dairy farming and fat lambs are the main agricultural pursuits, with some vineyards having been developed in recent years.  The nearby Myponga Reservoir supplies most of the Southern Fleurieu's needs. It is spectacular to drive across the top of dam wall. some of most dramatic views are on the road to Carrickalinga. The area is suitable for specialist nurseries and intensive flower growing,  most are open for visitors during summer.
Cape Jervis  -  (Click the map)
At the tip of Fleurieu Peninsula is Cape Jervis. It was charted in 1802 by Mathew Flinders who named it after the then first Lord of the Admiralty.

The coastline around Cape Jervis is rugged, the result of glacial action and aeons of elemental weathering; the surrounding cliffs and coves are great for exploring. On most days, the outline of Kangaroo Island can be clearly seen. The waters around Backstairs Passage can be treacherous and Cape Jervis lighthouse is still important to shipping.

Several ferries depart from here daily for a short trip across backstairs passage to Kangaroo Island, sixteen kilometres away. In addition to fishing and boating, the district is a popular venue with hang gliders.
