Environment
    The people of the Encounter Coast are rightly proud of the region and many are concerned with developing a self sustaining way of living in harmony with the environment and it's species.

     The South Coast Peace and Environment Group organises tree planting, nature walks, community education through schools and bush dances. They monitor local government and development activities and make submissions to lessen un-desirable aspects. They network with other like-minded people, reducing our impact by learning environmentally better ways of living.

Middleton and Port Elliot 
    The perfect places to escape and rediscover some of life's traditional values. St Judes Port ElliotKnown for its enticing small shops, restaurants, holiday home rentals, swimming, surfing and fishing. With miles of accessible coastline, broken by rugged headlands and protected bays, provide magnificent coastal walks and some of Australia's best swimming and surfing beaches. Basham Park is the perfect spot for kite flying and whale watching, while Horseshoe Bay is a great family beach.

    Port Elliot is a very popular South Australian recreation area for urban Adelaide dwellers. The local population is a diverse one, with a range of identifiable common interest groups. A significant number have chosen a more alternative lifestyle. Environmental clubs and activities are strongly supported and is served by a wide range of sporting, cultural and service organizations. Tourism has increased markedly. The south coast has the highest growth rate of population in South Australia with an average rate of increase over the past four years beingPort Elliot School 5.8%. 

    While in Port Elliot, be sure to call into the Family Hotel at Port Elliot for meals accomodation or an entertaining evening out with the family. 

    Port Elliot and Middleton are within easy reach of other Fleurieu attractions including Kangaroo Island and Deep Creek Conservation Park, international acclaimed wine growing areas and the internationally renown Coorong and Murray Mouth. Mindacowie and The Mill are both proclaimed heritage buildings,  a local committee is considering the possible inclusion of several others.

Mt Compass
    Inland from Goolwa,  there are farms where you can stay in the rustic bunkhouse and enjoy homestyle meals. Fly fishing is available at the trout farm and you can visit the local protea, strawberry and deer farms. Mt Compass is also the venue for the only annual cow race in Australia. Children will enjoy the Fairy Cave shop.
