     Ashbourne
Straddling the Finniss River, this town is famous for its fresh produce while it nestles in a picturesque valley a short drive from Strathalbyn.

Its fruit finds its way onto the tables of the world, and roadside stalls give the opportunity to try the local produce. The road to Ashbourne from Strath is one of the most serene in the region with its winding roads and great old river red gums.

The Ashbourne Private Golf Course is known to many as a delightful Sunday outing.

Close by can be found the local hostelry, set amongst an original garden and ancient gum trees, surrounded by orchards and olive groves. The Greenman was built in Ashbourne in 1865 to accomodate travellors and road workers. It was established as a licensed hotel until the Methodists closed it down in 1868.  A general store and Post Office was established until 1910, when it was then turned into a private home.  In Nov 1997 it was purchased derelict by the Norris’s, they wanted to return the building to its prime,  and establish a hotel and restaurant.

Carmel Norris and Cambell Haig opened the Greenman Inn on the 22 June 1998. Its available for reservations, open seven days till late.
It is best to book in advance:   08 8536 6044.

    Finiss

Can be found off the Goolwa Road south of Strathalbyn. Although Finniss may appear to no longer exist, apart from a community hall. There continues to be a strong feeling of community with many locals actively involved around Finniss and  Strathalbyn.

    Bull Creek

A few kilometres north of Ashbourne is the site of the old township Bull Creek named after the cattle farmer John Bull and settled in the 1840s. The views down the Finniss River Valley are magnificent. The town once comprised of shop, church, post office and school. The only links to the past remaining is the cemetary.

    Paris Creek
A village settled in the 1860s by the Paris family. Marble was quarried in the area until recent times, producing stone for many local public buildings and the Canberra War Memorial. A souvenir outlet has possibly the largest collection of bells and thimbles in Australia.
