ABS reports Net Access from homes is rising (Sept 98)
More than one million Australian households access the Internet from home, according to a trend identified in a recent report by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.Internet access by households increased by 14% between Feb and May this year when 971,000 households has access to the Internet. The bulk of the increase occurred in homes who already had computers.

However, Australia's largest Internet access company Ozemail reports the increase in dial-up subscriptions by home users is being quickly surpassed by permanenetly connected business customers. Ozemail has 203,000 subscribers followed by Telstra's Big Pond service with 200,000.

Work was the most frequent point of access for adults, over 18,  at 1.5 million followed by home access at 1.4 million. Other places such as schools, universities and Internet cafes accounted for a total of 1.9 million persons.

The Tour Down Under will be held in South Australia in January   Sanctioned by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), cycling's
governing body, the Tour Down Under was an entirely new calibre of road racing for Australia.
For the second time in Australia, complete teams of international professional riders and elite national teams battle it out alongside our home grown stars, like Stuart O’Grady, Henk Vogels and Jay Sweet, for the right to wear the ‘Leader's Jersey.’

Since SAFleur On Web announced recently that their Web Site is available for sponsorship they have been overwhelmed by the interest from businesses and community groups.

The cars in the Variety Club Bash arrived on Saturday  in Victor Harbor . The order of the day was fun and frivolity with the cars covered iin layers of mud and dust and the drivers dressed in some of the most unique and outrageous costumes you could imagine. They had travelled from Adelaide to Victor Harbor via Alice Springs to a civic reception and banquet. This year's Bash saw the total of monies raised go over the $7.5 million mark. All money goes to towards assisting sick, disabled and otherwise disadvantaged children of South Australia.

The sun shone as the Willunga Almond Blosssom Festival Parade headed down the High Street on Sunday morning followed by live entertainment throughout the day at the Willunga Oval. Morning and afternoon teas were served throughout the week at the Festival Hall and the bus tours of the district proved to be very popular.

The Great Australian Bite has seen the largest number of whales in attendance since whaling ceased. Corrospondingly the Fleurieu's Encounter Coast is having the best whale watching season ever, with crowds observing the Southern Right's  enormous spouts of water followed by their huge tails flipping out of the sea most with newly born in attendance. A warning signal was sent out to all water users when a surfer was knocked from his board at Middleton Point when he was shunted several times by a mother whale.
