It's Hot In The City Tonight

We've had a spate of HOT weather, somewhere between 30*C - 40+*C. Our house gets hot really quickly. For an entire week, we've been sleeping on the dining room floor. It is the only room in the house with an air conditioning unit. However, today is raining. Actually we've had thunder and lightening nearly every night for 3 days. Believe it or not, tonight we had the heating on in Summer!

On Thursday night, I went out for dinner with my mother to 'Carousel', at Albert Park Lake. They are now setting up the grand stands for the Grand Prix. Anyway, the restaurant sits on the edge of the Lake, with a view of the city. It was beautiful watching the light changes, as it went from day to dusk, dusk to night. The sun setting on the water as the black swans calmly drifted by. Then it started to pour. I watched as the rain made patterns on the water, very hypnotising. Then it was calm. It started to downpour again, this time with thunderous intent. The lightning hit the water in jagged streaks. Of course, being a large body of water, the lightning hit more than once. I was happy to be watching from within the decorative surroundings of the restaurant. I hoped that somewhere, the farmers were watching this glorious display and were benefitting from the rain. My only concern was the lightning, which has the potential to start fires and damage crops.

This week has been a gastronomical delight! From Peking duck to really nice fries from McDonald's. I have tasted it all. Last week, Hubby and I went for breakfast at Hilton on the Park. For $26 a head, you can imagine the elaborate spread. I usually only get those type of breakfasts when I go overseas and stay in hotels. It was a special treat for the two of us.

My brother treated us to lunch on his birthday at one of his favourite restaurants. I was so full from the previous nights dinner, that I couldn't eat much. The company was lovely. My brother's best friend, his wife and two children were there also. This is not uncommon, as hubby and I mostly socialize with my brother's friends. I sat next to their son, who had a Spice Girl sticker on his arm. He proudly told me " Mum calls me Posh Spice ". I replied "Yes sweety, if you were a girl you would look similar to Posh Spice". He giggled. Then his sister, who has dark skin and dark hair exclaimed "I'm Baby Spice". I was thinking hard. How was I to respond to this one? Hmmm, like chalk on a blackboard. "Yes honey, you can be Baby Spice and I can be Scary Spice". I think she liked that. Considering my fair complexion and blue eyes, I think this was a good comparison. I can't believe the impact these Spice girls have made on children.
I heard on the radio, that the Posh Spice Doll wasn't selling as good as the rest of the other dolls. I thought Spice Girl Dolls were a joke. I went to a department store, looking for a gift for my 5 year old neice (Dalla) and my 1 year old nephew. You wouldn't be able to guess what I saw. Spice Girl dolls!!!

I worked on Sunday arvo. Started at 3 and finished at 10pm. I get out to my car, my alarm must have been activated, for I could hear a faint beeping noise. I tried to start my car, flat battery. I went back into the building (I had to wait for someone to come out first, because the door was locked) and called Hubby reverse charges. Hubby was more interested in asking me whether he should split the meat for the soup, into two separate pots. Okay, so I waited for Hubby to arrive (25 minute drive) and bring jumper leads. One, two, three.....car turns over. New problem. Can't shut the bonnet of the car. The latch was stuck. Hubby is not a happy camper. 12am and we still hadn't eaten dinner. I was to follow Hubby to Fast Eddie's for dinner (Open 24 hours). I start to follow my speedy gonzalis (although I was only doing 50 km/hr) and all of a sudden, SMASH. My bonnet flew up and hit the windscreen. Blindly driving, I quickly put on my hazards and pulled to the side. Amazed at how calm I was, I stared at the windscreen, which looked like a jigsaw puzzle. I got out of my car and tried to pry the bonnet down. No go! The bonnet was bent, as one would bend their elbow.

A few minutes later, I hear "Can I help you?" I turn around and three men, stood there (like the 3 Wise Men of X-mas). I told them what had happened and they tried to do a quick panel beating job and fix the bonnet so I would be able to drive. As they were all tram drivers, their passengers were staring from the window of the tram. Spectators, my favourite thing at 12am in the morning, NOT! However, I really appreciated the men helping me. They were really sweet and helpful. Big Thanks to you (wherever you may be) !
Hubby noticed I wasn't with him and he came back to find me. Hubby took it calmly. More than I thought he would. We ended up getting towed to Richmond, where we left the car, infront of a panel beating garage.

It had been along time since I had seen the city at night. The once yellow spire that sat uptop the Concert hall, is now white, but at night it is lit up with blue lights and has yellow lights flashing in an upwards manner. It really looks wonderful, much better than what it used to look like. Beam me up Scottie!

Bed time, 3:37am, after shopping, making soup, tidying up etc...

Well that's all folks! For now anyway. I am getting c'puter upgrade, so I will not be online for a few. Looking foward to being back soon...Take care till then....

Soosh
