Kitsch - and - Kin

This picture is of my Mom's mantel - showing the angels she would display every year.

Mom has been gone for over 20 years, and I still have all of these pieces - except the nativity candle in the center.

Mom's angels

Mom's angels today
They have been packed and moved
several times and their wings
have broken off, but . . .
Here they are in my
Christmas display, 1999.

And, by the way, Mom crafted the ceramic angels herself.
They are a special part of our Christmas kitsch each year.
The little pink ornament in the center is also quite old now.
My sister had a blue one - they were made to hang over the top
of those big Christmas bulbs - the pinwheel inside
would then rotate because of the heat of the bulb.
They do not work well with the tiny bulbs of today.

The Tree behind the angels was also Mom's.
Looking at these today it is so easy to remember
childhood Christmas celebrations.
Using them brings Mom a bit closer, too.

topper from my girlhood trees
This angel
(now also sans wings)
sat atop my
girlhood trees

This is the angel
we bought in 1970 the year
our oldest daughter was born.
One of my email pals
described her angel
Is this what
she looks like, Tiger?

Christmas Mini-teaset

I sort of collect miniature teasets.
This is my Christmas one.
The tree is the teapot - the packages are
sugar, creamer, and cups

Awwwwwwww what a sweet pair!
This was my sister Debbie's first Christmas.
I would have been 23 months old and she would have been 9 months old.
the Gramma used to be a little girl!

Dec. 22 Santa, Mrs. Santa and Gramma

Went to the Tesoro ToGo Store tonight to fuel up
and look who the gramma found there!
Well, I just couldn't resist,
especially as I had the camera with me!

Dear Santa . . . .
