Kristopher Kristopher

Kris has always been “big” for his age and full of so much enthusiasm for life.
That is why I have always lovingly referred to him as “my Great Dane puppy”.
When he was a 1-year-old he was the size of a 2-year-old,
at 4 he was the size of a 6-year-old.
Today at 20, he’s 6’4”, 230 lbs. and still growing.
His doctor has predicted he will top out at about 6’5”.

He has always been one of those children
who did things other children would never think of doing.

I’ve always gone by the theory that a toddler will let you know when they are ready
to be moved out of their crib and into a regular bed. One day when Kris was about 2,
he had been playing in his room quietly, too quietly for the longest time.
When I went into investigate what he was up to, I found his crib in pieces all over the
floor of his room. He had found a screwdriver and dismantled his crib.
That evening we went shopping to buy him a regular bed!

Any mother who has had small children knows what a luxury it is to find a few minutes of peace and quiet to do the simple things in life, like taking a shower without being interrupted. One afternoon, all 4 of my children were sitting at the kitchen table coloring. I remember thinking to myself, what trouble could they get into coloring? I made a quick dash for the shower and had just lathered up my hair when 10 year old Erica started banging on the door and announced, “Mom, Kris just swallowed a crayon!” I made a mad dash out of the shower to find Kris standing there unusually calm pointing to his open mouth. Inside I could see a white crayon lodged sideways in his throat. As we waited for the paramedics’ arrival, to my amazement he never choked or gagged. When the paramedics did arrive, Kris opened his mouth as the fireman shined a flashlight in it. The fireman announced “Yep, there’s a white crayon caught in there!” They loaded us up into an ambulance and headed to the emergency room only to find that by the time we arrived, Kris had swallowed that white crayon! The doctor told me not to worry, what goes in
usually comes out, which it did the next day.

Life with Kris has never been dull. When he accidentally splashed Pine-Sol cleaner in his eyes, there was no permanent damage, but he had to keep both eyes patched for 3 days. That didn’t bother him, he thought it was great fun pretending to be blind.

His most recent escapade was diving into a pool from a brick wall. He split his chin open and needed 10 stitches. The emergency room doctor asked him jokingly “Did you flunk math? How do you figure someone 6’3” could dive into a 6’ pool and not hit the bottom?” Kris just laughed.

That’s ”My Great Dane Puppy”!
