Sorority History
Latinas
Promoviendo Comunidad/ Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. was founded
on April 16, 1988 at Cornell University by four strong women. The
Founding Hermanas: Patricia Rivera, Maria Caban, Eva Marie
Sosa-Grandison and Migdalia Franklin sought to establish an
organization that would transcend their collegiate experience and
consolidate their strength as responsible women devoted to the
community. With the help of Dr. Irma Admirall-Padamsee (Honorary
Hermana) this dream was brought to fruition. Today, Latinas
Promoviendo Comunidad/ Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. proudly
stands as a community service oriented organization comprised of
undergraduate, graduate and professional women.

Chapter History
On
February 28, 1993, four strong Latina women chartered a chapter
of Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/ Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. at
the State University of Albany. The Founding Pledge Class, Awilda
L. Martinez, Yeleny Estevez, Mayra de la Cruz, and Claudia M.
Torres, felt the need to bring an organization that celebrated
the beauty, courage, strength and vitality of the Latina woman
through community service and Hermandad, our special sisterhood.
We seek to continue to promote unity among all women regardless
of age, cultural/racial identity, sexual orientation and
religious affiliation.
