MY PHILOSOPHY ON NEWSPAPERS

Thomas Jefferson once said:

"Were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter".

I believe that a democracy can not survive without newspapers. Many of the freedoms that we often take for granted have been protected and enhanced by newspapers. Whenever a dictator takes over a country, the first institutions that are shut down or taken over are the newspapers and radio stations. Freedom of the press is the foundation upon which a free society is built.

I believe that newspapers are essential for personal success and happiness in today's modern world. We live in a world that is changing very rapidly in every field of human endeavor. Today's world has often been referred to as the information age. Everyday we rely on "information" to make many decisons. Increasingly our financial, physical and emotional well being is determined by the type, quality and timeliness of information that we receive. It is my belief that newspapers are a necessity for providing information essential for a prosperous and healthy life in the world that we live in today. Ignore them at your own peril.
