My Philosophy
on
books/libraries and education.
Some people feel that when they graduate from school that they have finished their education. I believe that education is a life long process. Knowledge is continuously evolving as new discoveries are made. The pace of discovery is ever quickening and the person who does not keep abreast in their chosen fields will soon find that their education is not only out of date and worthless but can be a liability.
The learning process should never consist of learning by memory endless reams of facts. Learning where information is located and how to reach that information is the key to keeping abreast in today's fast paced world.
Libraries are storehouses of knowledge. A library is generally visualized as a large imposing building containing millions of books or perhaps a room in a home set aside for books. I believe that in today's world a collection of "favorite folders" with links to websites and a good search engine on the internet also qualifies as a "library".
I believe that freedom of the press is one of the most precious freedoms that we have. This freedom is guaranteed by the United States Constitution: "Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech or the press." Throughout history, even in this present day, there have been groups and individuals who have attemped to restrict access or completely ban certain books. The Holy Bible was once restricted to the clergy. Today self appointed protectors of public morality are still among us trying to restrict or ban many books which in their opinion do not conform to God's will.
About this library
This library is now and always will be under constant construction. It contains only those fields which are of interest to me. But I will include a reference desk with links to other libraries and search engines to help you find what you can't find here. Many of the links were sent to me by my many internet friends. Thank you all. But please do not feel offended if you sent me one of your favorite links and it is not here. I just don't have room for all of the links that I have received.
This library is open 24 hours a day. Please feel free to come back at anytime, browse, read, and take these links home and put them in your own favorite folders.
