Diagram 9 Cliff Base Impacts Below The Beginners Face Note Significant erosion and exposed roots. Although climbing use and associated impacts are concentrated at the base of the cliff, this area sees equal or greater use by the general public. One restoration technique commonly used at other eastern US areas is site hardening, where aggregate rock (crushed limestone or sandstone have been used) is imported to cover the exposed roots. The area is then covered with a layer of mulch. This technique (adopted from landscape architecture) will stabilise the area, thus preventing further erosion, while allowing sufficient aeration of the roots. |
