CHAPTER 7 – CAVE MAN

~ ELEVEN DAYS LATER – 18th FEBRUARY 2001~

Serena nearly feel out of her bed as the alarm clock sounded loudly throughout her room.  She heaved her hand across the clock sending it topping to the floor.  It was Friday morning, and after the late night she had last night, she simply wished the earth would swallow her up.  She had however been deliriously happy, she’d spent every night with Kevin, and occasionally the others, it was like a dream, she knew she should pinch herself, but she didn’t want to wake up if it was.  She’d still not told Kevin about her illness, and she’d sworn Natalia to secrecy, she’d promised herself that she would tell him when the time was right, after all he needed to know, and she’d tell him, sooner – or later, she preferred later.

The phone rung, and she huffed loudly giving up any chance of more sleep.

“Hello?” she said picking up the receiver and speaking into it

“Hey precious” the voice replied

“Kevin.  What can I do for you?” she questioned

The way he spoke always seemed to make her smile uncontrollably, but he didn’t mind, she beamed proudly to the empty room as she listened to his breath.

“I have something to tell you” he said, his voice dropping it’s tone

“What?”

“I have to go away for a while, a promo tour around Europe.  I don’t really have a lot of choice, I'm sorry”

She heaved a sigh of relief, she was sure it was going to be something a lot worse.

“That’s fine, business is business.  How long are you going for?”

“A month”

A month itself didn’t seem very long.  Serena quickly did the math, 31days, 744 hours, 44,640 minutes.  It all of a sudden did seem a long time.

“Oh” she quietly replied

“I don’t want to go, I want to stay with you it’s just –“

“Kev, I understand, and it’s fine.  You’ll ring wont you?”

“Everyday, if not more”

“Then it’s settled.  When do you leave?”

“A week from today, the 25th”

“Well I guess we have a week together”

“You could come”

Serena would have jumped at the idea, but she knew she couldn’t.  She couldn’t risk something going wrong and Kevin founding out about her cancer.  She had yet another check up next week.  Perhaps the cancer had killed itself off, she knew that was just a simple pray into the harsh wind, but she prayed for it still.  She’d decided that she would take the medicine and the antibiotics, but never again would she step into chemotherapy, she was dead strong on that.

“No, I’ll just cramp your style” she laughed

“I'm serious, I can fly you over, you can come round with us, Brian sometimes takes Tamar, Nick usually brings the girl he happens to be dating at that point in time, why wont you come?”

“Don’t turn this onto me, I cant go, I have things here I have to do, sorry, but I cant go.  You’ll still ring though right?”

“Yeah.  Of course”

He sounded disappointed.

“Still want to go out today?” she questions sincerely

“Yeah, I know some where I want to take you”

His tone instantly picked up, as though he was happy again.

“Great okay, so give me time to have a shower and get ready.  About 10.00?”

“Perfect, I’ll see you then”

“Okay bye”

“Bye”

“Wait Serena”

“What?”

“Could I join you for that shower?” he laughed

“I don’t think so” she replied laughing

“I’ll see you later”

She replaced the receiver and set about getting ready.

~ 10.10 AM 18th FEBRUARY 2001~

A knock sounded on the door, as Serena finished brushing her teeth.

“Be right there” she screamed spitting out the toothpaste

She quickly rinsed out her mouth and dried around her lips then headed for the door.

“Hey you” she said opening the door.

He looked on approvingly, as he studied her thin figure, shown off perfectly by her stone wash dark blue jeans and square necked baby blue T-shirt.

“Don’t you look nice” she smiled looking down at his cargo pants and dark blue muscle shirt.

He sighed contentedly and walked I the door wrapping his arms around her waist.

“You look gorgeous” he remarks gently kissing her cheek

“So where are we going anyway?” she questions

“Surprise” he smiles taking her arm and leading her out the door.

She flicks the lock on the door and closes it behind her and Kevin walks her hand in hand to the car.

~ AN HOUR LATER ~

The car finally came to a halt.

“Can I open my eyes now?” she pleads, as he’d instructed her to close them about 10 minutes ago.

He reached over to the passenger side of the car and put his hand over hers which were placed over her eyes.  He slowly pulled her hands away.

“You can look now” he whispered

She looked on with ore at the beauty of the bay below them.  The car was park atop a hill come cliff that looked directly down onto a small coast beach area.  The water pounded roughly against the rocks below as the froth of the white plowed further onto the sand.  There was only a few scattered people around the beach area, but the only swimming area was further down, so the part where they had stopped was deserted.

“Come on” he encourages stepping out of the car.

She follows his request and also steps out of the car.  A weak breeze pushed gently against her skin, as she breathed in the scent of the cool ocean below.  She shaded her eyes, with her hand, as the suns rays blared into them.

“Come” he announces

He headed down a small dirt track that lead down the side of the hill carrying a cane basket.

She followed him down the beach, slipping a little on the loose dry dirt, but managing to not fall on her butt.  They reached the bottom and darted like little children onto the sand.

“It’s so pretty here” she remarks looking around at the serene beauty

“You’ve not seen anything yet” he smiles walking around to the rocks surrounding another cliff.

He stepped up onto a rock and offered his hand for her to follow, she took it, and he pulled her up onto the rock.

They continued around the cliff face, as the water below crashed against the jagged rocks.  He stopped abruptly and headed into a small crevice in the cliff wall.  She took his hand and followed him in.  The cave was silent and perhaps a little too dark for her likening.  It went way back then rounded up into what looked like a room.

“Isn’t this amazing?” he questions

“I can’t really see anything” she laughs

The cave looked as though it was perhaps man made.  Or maybe nature helped along by man, as it’s walls were what seemed a perfect shape.

“I found this a while back, and if I ever need to just be alone, I come here, to write or just to think” Kevin utters pulling a blanket from the case he was carrying.

He laid it on the floor and sat down, then motioned for Serena to join him.

“If you come here for some alone time, what am I doing here?” she smiled, plonking herself next to him.

He kissed her shoulder gently then down her arm.  He stopped quickly and looked up into her eyes and with complete enchantment whispered,

“I don’t want to be alone anymore”

Her heart melted as she studied his green eyes, shining with truth and glistening with love, how could she ever tell him the time would come when she’d have to leave him? How could she ever tell him she may soon die?

“Kev –“ she stuttered

“Hush, don’t speak” he whispered pulling her into a loving embrace

He ran his hand around to the side of her face.  Using it like a pillow she let her head fall onto it helplessly.  A tiny solitary tear slid from her eye, she was unsure whether it was one of joy or sadness.  He gently lay her back onto the blanket, running his hands across her body, studding ever curve and feature.  She reached her head up and kissed his lips softly, then looked at him with intent wanting locked in her eyes.  As if she’d spoken the words he understood her every want and need.  Slipping his hands under her top, with ease he removed it, freeing her pulsating chest.  He kissed his way down her skin devouring it with his hungry lips.  She reached down and swiftly pulled his shirt off over his head.  Their hands raced across each ones body.  He rubbed his hands up her thigh, trying to find what made her happy.  She smiled with pleasure, then quietly let a tiny groan release itself from her lips.  She reached her hand and gently tugged on his ‘member’ sensing he enjoyed the feeling she pulled on it harder, he could do nothing but moan his approval.  Unable to take the teasing anymore he pushed her hand away and entered her swiftly.  His lips graced every part of her face, as she pushed down on his back, and then ran her fingertips across his body.  She rolled him over and smiled down at him.

“Now I’m on top” she laughed seductively

She grabbed him and played casually with ‘it’ while his head drew back in absolute pleasure.  He flipped her back onto her back and entered again.  A loud breath escaped from her mouth as he pushed harder.  They moved carelessly across the blanket, before she screamed in pain.  He immediately stopped and fell to her side, and looked at her quizzically.

“What’s wrong?” he question earnestly

“Rock” she laughed rubbing her back
