GUARDIAN ANGEL
Marcus' hand came swiftly and forcefully down onto Arial's face
sending her tumbling backwards onto the cold hard, tar sealed car
park. She took a deep breath anticipating fearfully the sure to
come second blow.
“You stupid bitch” he hisses grabbing tightly at her
long dark hair, yanking her to her feet with brut force.
She quietly yelps as his eyes flare with anger, she closes her
eyes feeling the blood slowly drizzle from her forehead.
“You're real stupid you know” he utters, his breath
carrying the strong and potent stench of beer and cigarette
smoke.
He raises his fist back into the air, ready to once again make
contact.
“Hey get away from her” a voice bellows from behind
“Leave what doesn't concern you mate” Marcus slurs in
reply
The figure steps out into the light of the above street lamp. He
stood tall and solid, his face serious and handsomely defined. He
was taller, bigger and no doubt stronger than Marcus, who'd
finally met his match.
“I said get away from her, before I make your face part of
this car park”
“You're not worth shit you stupid whore” he curses at
Arial
“I'll be back for you” he calls out storming past Arial
purposely knocking her as he walks past.
Arial straightens her skirt and her top and quickly runs her
fingers through her mattered hair. Kevin walks up to her giving
her a clean hanky to clean the fresh blood off her forehead.
“Thanks” she quietly responds wiping the new wound
“Are you okay?”
Kevin couldn't believe that who ever that guy was could treat
such a pretty girl so bad. She looked quite young, her eyes
refused to make contact with him, her long flowing hair was
falling softly onto her skin.
“I'll be fine” she mumbles, still refusing to make eye
contact
“Who was that creep?”
“My husband” she mutters
“He'll go ballistic if I'm not home before him, thank you
for what you did, but I really must go” she continues
She begins to walk away trying her hardest to hold her head high,
even though she felt like the dirt trapped under someone's shoe.
“Wait” he calls gently touching her arm
From instinct she jumps back, fear glowing in her deep chestnut
eyes.
“I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you, but you shouldn't go
back to him he has no right to hurt you like this”
Kevin couldn't help but notice the variety of bruises on her thin
arms, and the old cut above her left eye, this wasn't the first
time he'd hit her, and Kevin sensed it wouldn't be the last.
“Please don't give me your moral Judgment , I have to live
strong for my baby, and I cant let him hurt her. Thank you again,
but I have to go”
With that she darted off down the road. Kevin wanted to follow
her, to help her, but it was obvious she wasn't ready to take it,
but his conscience couldn't let him just walk away, pretend like
nothing happened.
He strolls over to his car, and reaches in for his cellphone.
“Orlando Police Station, can I help you?” the voice on
the other end remarks
“Yeah, I hope so, this guy was beating up on his wife in the
car park, but she's scared and won't report him, is there
anything you can do?”
“Did you see him hit her?”
“Yes”
“Is she there with you?”
“No she ran off, look she's got a kid too, and I really
think e does this to her allot”
“Sir, do you know the women?”
“Not personally, but she's got bruises over her, and she
said she has to live strong for her baby, can't you arrest him or
something?”
“If she refuses to report of give testimony there is nothing
we can do, I'm sorry but it was to come from her”
“But she's scared I can see that just by looking at
her”
“Sorry sir, but there is nothing we can do”
“Fine, Bye”
He turns the phone off and slumps down onto the front seat.
* THE NEXT MORNING *
Kevin strolls through the isles of the local supermarket, he
hated shopping, but he was fresh out of milk and a few other
assorted groceries. He walks carelessly by a couple of other
shoppers, his mind still eating up his heart over what happened
the night before, he hated thinking about what happened when the
guy got home last night.
“Sorry” a female voice offers as a small kid tries to
dart between Kevin's legs as he lined up behind them at the
checkout
“No problem” Kevin idly replies
The little girl looks up a cute smile locked on her face, she
would have only been about 5, her eyes a deep brown and her hair
was wavy brown. The mother looks up just barely making eye
contact. He knew in an instant who the lady was - it was her.
“Hey I remember you” Kevin remarks smiling
He noticed she had a new long cut across her forehead, and was
wearing a long sleeved jacket even though the temperature was
quite hot.
“Hi” she offers weakly
“I never caught your name, I'm Kevin”
“Arial”
“And this is?” he inquires bending down to the little
girl
“Michelle, my daughter”
Arial quickly paid the checkout lady and grabbed up her bags, she
knew she couldn't stay here and talk to this seemingly nice man,
if Marcus ever found out, she knew it wouldn't be pretty. She
smiles a good bye and rushes out of the shop.
Kevin runs his stuff through the checkout and hurriedly pays the
bill, and too exits, his eyes searching wildly for a sign of
where she is. He spots her over by a car across the car park, he
runs up to her, bags in hand.
“Look, you shouldn't let this guy hurt you” he blurts
out reaching the car
“Shell get in the car please honey”
The small girl does as she's told and hops into the front seat of
the car.
“Please don't make a fuss about this, it only hurts till you
stop making him angry”
“He can't hurt you like this, if you report it, he'll be
locked up”
“I tried that once I believed the same thing, but he got out
and came after me and my baby, he tried to kill us, and swore if
I tried to run away again he would kill us, so please just forget
about me”
“I cant, but I can help, I have money I can set you up far
from here, I can make sure they take him away”
“I wish it was true”
“Please trust me”
“I have no trust left”
She walks away and hops into the front seat and starts the car.
“Let me help you” he mouths looking through the window,
his green eyes begging
She slowly shakes her head, trying not to let the forthcoming
tears escape though she wanted to cry so badly. The car pulls
away out of the car park and onto the main road. He looks down
the tears welling up, he couldn't just let her go it wasn't fair.
Then something caught his eye, she'd left her handbag in the
trolley, he picked it up, and searched through it looking for
some sign as to whom she was and where she was from.
“Arial Harper, 179 Gradfield Road” he reads out loud
Kevin's car pulls to a halt outside the house he'd taken note of
before, it was a smallish house, flat level with a medium fence
surrounding it, with a child's play set in the front lawn. He
walks up to the gate and pulls it open, the sound of screaming
pierced through his ears, as he got closer, he could hear yelling
and a child crying, he reaches down onto his belt, grabbing up
his cellphone, he quickly dials the number for the Orlando Police
Station and reports the occurrences. They'd told him not to
interfere at all, but the sound of screaming drew him up closer
to the house, he barges through the front door, to see a
disturbing picture of the young women been heaved across the room
by an enraged mad man.
“What the hell do you want?” he curses, glaring at
Kevin
Arial too looked shocked to see this man.
'Is he some sort of guardian angel' she ponders to herself,
studding his sweet yet serious face.
“Get away form her” Kevin demands, making his tall
strong stature pronounced
“Says who?” the man stumbles back, clearly intoxicated
“Says Me” Kevin replies stepping in front of Arial
As most drunk guys, Marcus lunged towards Kevin, trying his best
to swing a legible punch, Kevin grabbed his arm and threw it back
down to his side, his eyes trying to cultivate fear without
resorting to violence.
The sound of approaching police sirens, broke the silence and
sensing he was about to get in allot of trouble, Marcus did his
best to flee. He barged past Kevin and scowled down at Arial
silently threatening her that he'd be back. Kevin grabbed his arm
and yanked him backwards sending him toppling to the floor,
Marcus struggled to get up, but Kevin refused to let him go,
continually pushing him back down.
Three officers burst through the front door, and pulled the two
men away from each other. Kevin leaned down and helped Arial to
her feet, it was then he noticed the small girl had seen the
whole thing from the top of the stairs she came running down and
embraced her mother tightly and silently with a smile thanked
Kevin.
The officers led Marcus out of the door, and suggested Arial at
once see a doctor as her head was bleeding from fresh new wounds
and her arm was badly cut as a result of been thrown into the
mirror across the lounge.
“Thanks” she whispers wholeheartedly
Kevin smiled and handed Arial her bag, he'd been clutching
tightly too.
“You're our angel” the little girl remarks reaching up
to hug Kevin.
