Chapter One: Power

Power is everything! Power is strength and Power is ability. We crave for a power because we need the sensation it gives us, but you have to be smart to have power, smart like me, I have power more than some will ever realize. Imagine the power of control, imagine been able to control someone's thoughts with those of you own, now that is power.

Some say ultimate power isn't possible, but that's only because they'll never experience it. Some say Power is the eight deadly sin, but I know its all of them with power comes greed, with greed comes gluttony, with gluttony comes sloth with sloth comes pride, with pride comes wrath, with wrath comes lust and with lust comes envy, and all of them, stem from the one thing we all secretly crave, the one thing we all secretly pray for, power, because power is everything.

Faith closed her eyes slowly as she lay her head down onto the soft pillow. Brian smiled happily as he gently ran his hand across the bump on her stomach.
"Is it true what they say, unborn babies can hear what you say?" he questioned, his eyes lit with wonderment Faith nodded in response as she kissed Brian gently.

A year had passed since the two had married. They had moved to a more central house in Tampa, Florida, backing onto the water and surrounded by a thick iron fence and an array of lush foliage, and now Faith was five months pregnant and both parents were deliriously happy.

"I'd go anywhere for you, anywhere you ask me to" Brian sung in a hushed whisper as he lay his hand onto her stomach. He felt the gentle kick of the unborn baby and a soft tear came to his eye.
"Baby loves you singing" Faith chuckled as she shuffled the pillows underneath her head Brian smiled again, right now he was the happiest guy alive and no one would take that away from him.

-Mental Institute, Los Angeles, Californnnnnia-

The physiatrist scribbled notes across her note pad as Catherine sat perfectly still opposite her. Her hand gently touched each other as she lay then motionless on her lap, her eyes keeping direct contact with the older graying lady. Her mouth was neither smiling nor frowning, just poised ready to speak. She'd lost some weight, her hair had grown, but she was still very much the same. She'd learnt a lot in the 15 months she'd been there, she was positive she was smarter now, smarter and stronger.
"How do you feel today Catherine?"
Same as any day wench

"I feel fine, it's a lovely day" Catherine spoke, her mouth curving into a practiced smile - they always trusted you more if you smiled
"The hearing today is in front of the board this afternoon, how does that make you feel?" Catherine studied the clock on the wall just for a moment before she carefully turned her thick eyes back at the attention of the physiatrist.
"Fine" she replied simply, she wasn't in the mood for idle chitchat, she knew they longed to break into her mind, but she wasn't about to let them
"You do know they could let you out?"
Ah the illusive ticket out of here

Catherine nodded.
"Do you think they will?"
No, you wont trap me that way
"I can only hope they will make a true evaluation"
"Are you healed?"
We'll see

"I think I've come to the realization of many things"
"How do you feel about Faith and Brian now?"
Ah, the baited question, we knew that was coming
"I would have done what they did had I been put in the same situation"
She looked at the clock again, thank god she could go soon.
"Well Catherine I wish you the best this afternoon, whatever will be will be" she smiled handing Catherine a "smile" card, which was essentially a cardboard smiley face cut out with the words "smile" across it. Catherine shuddered as she took it, the damn things were plastered everywhere, if it were a real person she'd be on the verge of slaughtering it!

The board meeting when perfectly, or so Catherine thought. She had said everything they wanted to, every way the expected, her timing was perfect, her slight sniffle when she spoke of the past, it was perfect, she'd aced it, that she was sure of.

She starred out the barred windows like an animal trapped in a cage, she was positive she didn't belong there locked up to wither away with drooling idiots who couldn't tie their own shoes, she wasn't insane, and she was certainly sure she would be out very soon.

"What do you think?" an older man sighed rubbing his thick beard
"I think she's truly sorry about what happened?" a middle-aged women lamented
"But is she a threat?" another piped in
Silenced followed as they looked down, searching for the answers.
"I don't think she is" the middle-aged women announced stiffly "It's in my opinion she wont re-offend"
They all nodded in agreement, she'd definitely won them over.
"Do we tell the Littrell's?"
"I don't think there is any cause to alarm them, the privacy act states only if we view the person as a potential threat"
The older man sighed, he didn't agree, but he would be out voted, there was no point pushing the problem, Catherine would be free in a matter of days, and the Littrell's the family he only knew by name on paper, would carry on none the wiser.
