Chapter Twelve: The Clock Strikes - Time

November 29th

The sun was beginning fade into its weave of purple and pink across the sky as Faith folded baby clothes in the baby blue room complete with a elaborate cane basket cot Brian insisted having and brightly painted wood numbers stuck across the walls.

She felt movement inside her and brushed a hand across her stomach.
“Mom just called, she said to say hi” Brian remarked from the doorway
Faith turned around slowly a baby’s jumpsuit pressed between her hands.
“You look tired” he sighed gently stroking her arm
“A little” Faith replied uneasily, truth was she was worried, she was in a vulnerable state and she knew Catherine knew that.
“You go lie down, I’ll finish in here” Brian smiled
Faith smiled tiredly.
“It’ll be okay” Brian remarked as Faith slipped passed him, “I promise” he smiled wistfully as his hand took hers
She nodded, her heart praying that it were possible for him to be right.

Time. Time. Time. Is a fucking nuisance. Time needs to move onward, I’m not sure how much longer I can hold myself back for....I know I must because a plan is not a good one without precision timing, so I must wait, hold back, watch, learn, then act, yes then act.....

Catherine racked her brain, the pieces of the puzzle were before her yet nothing could fit, she knew one thing, she was running out of time.....time for what? She wasn’t yet sure.

Brian looked solemnly around the room, this would be his child’s room he knew in due time. He knew that he would grow and live here, happy, healthy, loved. But his mind wandered to faith, would she? His eyes darkened to the thought and he scrambled to bury it, but he could not mask his heart, would time be in Faith?

December 6th

Faith etched her way from the warmth and comfort of the bed and yawned softly. Brian had left, all be it begrudgingly, about an hour before.

She slinked into an oversized jumper and ran a brush carelessly through her dark locks. The baby was due early to mid January which, in Faith’s eyes, meant she had a lot of work to do before then.

She walked into the baby’s room and sat down on the wooden rocking chair in the far corner, her eyes bounced from the bassinet to the window then across to the closet. A tear slid helplessly from a closed eye as she prayed silently for the safety of the child she carried.

December 9th

“One month?” a voice muttered to no one
“No, no, now, now, must be now” the same voice reassured no one
A wicked smile dawned on a hardened face as two eyes searched the face of a wall clock.
“Will be soon, very soon indeed”

Faith buckled over gripping at her stomach is sudden agony. Brian rushed to stabilizer her as she struggled for breath.
“What’s going on?” Brian questioned, panic running firmly through his voice.
“I don’t know” Faith managed between the sharp biting pains
“Lets go” Brian announced leading her towards the front door.

December 10th - 1:00am

Brian paced the length of the corridor for what seemed the millionth time. The Doctors had taken one look at Faith in the condition she was in and rushed her into theater, that being the last time he’d seen her in 4 grueling hours.

“Mr Littrell?” a voice questioned from behind Brian
He spun around to be met with the face of a smiling Doctor.
“Is she okay?”
“Your wife and your son are doing well”
