Chapter 13: It Begins Now

Shit! How did this happen? Time has forsaken me, now everything must be stepped up, things must be rushed, rushing makes mistakes. No, no mistakes will be made, the time to act will merely be sooner. No problem - I have the power, power is everything.

Must act now, for true force, it must be done now. When least expected?

Brian starred down wistfully at the small child before him. He was pale and wrinkly, but in a fathers caring eyes he was the closest thing to perfection. He was around 3 weeks early, but as strong and healthy as he could be.

Faith lay peacefully asleep, her body calmed from the wracking pain with a mixture of medical concoctions. It had been a long and difficult birth but one that both mother and baby came through.

“Hey Thomas” Brian smiled touching the small baby’s hand with his finger.
Thomas clasped three fingers around one of Brian’s and gurgled quietly his affection.

Brian felt his heart practically burst inside of him. Before him lay a beautiful baby, innocent in every way yet the perfect target of a psychopath.

Catherine watched the house meticulously. She’d been confused at first, lost in a maze of conflicting evidence. Yet, finally she figured it out. She knew what the Litrells didn’t. She knew the real target.

Brian unlocked the door and walked into the quite and lonely house. He threw his keys onto the side tale and kicked the door closed behind him. He’d left Faith and Thomas at the hospital. Faith had finally agreed that was the best place for them to be right now. Both parents understood no matter what happened their first instinct was protect the one that couldn’t protect himself.

Brian starred at the alarm system on the wall - it had been disarmed. He stepped back towards the door, his hand gripping the door handle.

No, if she’s here I wont run. I wont let her rule my life he determined.

He knew he was not the target in Catherine’s deranged mind. She’d never tried to harm him and he doubted she would now. And if it had been her intention to hurt him as he had stepped unawares into the house he had provided her ample opportunity to strike, yet she had not.

Which left two options, Faith was the desired target not him - and she was tucked away protected along with their son, or, Catherine didn’t hear him come in, which meant he, for once, had the upper hand.

His hand gripped onto the nearest object. A brass statuette that Faith had picked out from a second hand store. It was heavy in his hand, but could be swung easy.

He tried not to make a sound as he crossed the lobby. She wasn’t in the lounge, he would need to venture further into the house. As he entered the lounge he heard the creek of a door behind him. He spun around, but before he could react the but of a shotgun came down hard against his head and he dropped like a bowling pin to the ground.

A smile came across a twistedly familiar face.
“Let the games begin”
