Chapter Three: Information
“How are you going sweetheart?” the petite nurse with a huge white smile questioned as she smeared the jelly like substance across Faith’s exposed stomach
“Fine, thank you” Faith smiled as she watched Brian paying full attention to the machines around her
This was to be the first time Brian would see the sonogram of the baby like this, he was determined not to miss this one for the world.
He gently clutched her hand as the nurse, identified as Lisa by her nametag, switched on the machine beside the bed.
“Ready to take a peek inside?” she questioned with a certain smile
It didn’t take long for the black a white figure to appear on the screen.
“This part here is the head” she explained, pointing to the large white space “Now did you want to know if it’s a girl or boy?”
“We’d like to know” Brian gushed as he looked at the black and white figure with intrigue
Lisa scanned down a little further and smiled as she looked at the screen.
“Congratulations, you’re having a baby boy”

Catherine strolled into the main entrance of the hospital, her hair was blond now and pulled back into a tight bun. Her eyes were a blue now thanks to the contacts she’d picked up from the chemist down the road. The private hospital was quite and the receptionist only briefly looked up at Catherine as she wandered in holding a large bunch of flowers. She stopped at the huge white sign in front of her and scanned down the list for the Maternity ward.
“Ward 3” she smiled to herself as she walked to the nearest elevator
The large painted doors opened to reveal a hoard of people exiting the building. Catherine almost screamed as she saw two familiar faces exit the elevator. Faith was dressed in a pair of black pants, that barely gave away her growing stomach and a dark blue top, her hair was lose and she was wearing dark silver framed glasses. Brian was beside her, holding her hand, dressed in Khaki pants and a loose black shirt, dark glasses and a baseball cap trying to cover his identity, yet Catherine knew it was them, almost like she could smell them. Her gaze followed them, watching as they walked towards the main door.
Brian turned around, he could feel someone’s eyes burning into his back. His eyes flashed around the main lobby but he could see no one that he recognized. A figure slipped into the elevator in the distance, flowers bunching around their face. He shook off the feeling and carried on out the main door.
Why are you covering your face, they don’t know you’re here, what if they do? Catherine wondered if they knew she was out of the institute, she wasn’t aware if they had been notified or not, but she wasn’t willing to take any chances, knowing full well that she would be hauled back inside the horrid place of smile cards if the Littrell’s complained about her, she had to keep a low profile, she couldn’t let them know she was in Florida, not now, not until the end.
The ding of the elevator snapped her from her daze and she stepped out into the maternity ward.
She wandered down the polished halls and stopped at the front desk to the wad.
“Excuse me” she smiled in a crafted Tennessee accent “I'm looking for the mid wife”
The older lady behind the desk chuckled slightly.
“Which one dear? There are about twenty here”
Catherine smiled sweetly, with only a hint of disappointment. She planned on that.
“Oh well shoot, I'm not sure of the name, I lost the card between here and the car, I'm so silly, this is my fist day and here I am failing terribly” she sniffed “I might remember the name if I see it on paper” she sighed
The older nurse smiled.
“It’s alright dear, we all make mistakes, look down and see if you see her name” the nurse grinned and she spun around a thick blue appointment book
Catherine scanned down quickly, the name popped out of the book loudly, Faith & Brian Littrell written in the 12:30 appointment box, she scanned across the midwifes name, Lisa Dunaway.
“There it is, Lisa Dunaway” she laughed sweetly
“Second door on the right” the nurse instructed as she flicked the book back around
“Shoot, thanks so much, I really mean that” Catherine said
“No problem dear, but this will be our secret”
“Lips sealed” Catherine whispered as she wandered down the hall
She knocked on the second door on the right, and a lady in her early twenties answered the door.
“Flowers for you” Catherine smiled as she wandered in.
“Wow who from?” Lisa exclaimed
“Uh, not sure, but take a sniff they smell divine”
Lisa bent in and took a deep breath as Catherine placed them on her desk. She pulled the choliform covered rag from her bag and pushed it against Lisa’s face, she yelped a little but dropped easily into her arms. Catherine dragged her over to the couch and lay her down gently.
“Sleep tight sunshine” she grinned running back over to the desk.
She wiggled the mouse of the computer and the screen saver vanished as a white screen popped up.
“Modern age, you gotta love it” she smiled as she fanned down the appointment/client list. She double clicked on the folder entitled “Littrell” and in an instant all the appointments, medical history, address and everything Catherine could imagine popped up in the screen. She hit print and waited for the paper to flow through. She grabbed up the 3 pages of notes and shoved them into her bag, then ran back to Lisa. She smiled down at her then ran to the door.
“Oh dear, she fainted” she cried down to the nurse that had told her where to go. She came running down the hall and into the room to see Lisa out on the couch.
“What happened?” she questioned bending down to check her pulse
“I don’t know, I put the flowers down, she commented how lovely they were then she fainted on me, I dragged her over to the couch then got you, oh shoot I hope I didn’t do anything”
“No dear, it’s okay, it’s awfully hot in here, the weather probably just got to here”
“Well I better get going, I got so many more to deliver”
“Not a problem, you run along, I’ll take care of her”
“Thanks” Catherine smiled as she darted down the hall and into the awaiting elevator.

Catherine slinked down into the chair of the furnished apartment she’d rented in suburban Orlando. She held the copies of the printed information proudly in her hand, a slight smile cracking across her face.
“Blood type O, interesting” she read “next of kin listed as Brian’s parents, strange” she pondered, it had been her knowledge from her previous employment in the public hospital that the girls parents were usually listed. For the first time Catherine realized she’d never actually heard about Faith’s parents, did they actually exist?

“I think you should take a break” Brian smiled as he stood in the doorway of the half finished nursery. He’d just returned from a hastily arranged meeting on some details about the record label the boys had set up. And Faith was busy painting an old sanded down crib. Brian wasn’t sure why she preferred to do all this herself rather than hiring help, but Faith always wanted it down this way.
Faith looked up from her job and smiled at Brian.
“How was the meeting?” she questioned, wiping a stray hair from her face with her forearm
“Same old thing” he grinned as he strolled over and sat beside her, “It looks beautiful” he spoke as he looked at the slowly forming babies room
Faith smiled thankfully as she put down her paintbrush and starred around the room.
“Do you think we’ll make good parents?” she questioned into the air
“I think we’ll do the best job we can” Brian replied wrapping his arms lovingly around her
