It was almost midnight, slowly guests were leaving, but Brian wasn’t particularly paying attention, another record another record party, always the same, and it always would be. It was dark outside as he sat watching the night sky full with more stars, a half drunken Martini in one hand. There was idle chatter about him, but nothing he could focus on, or rather nothing he cared to focus on, his thoughts louder than any of the voices around him.

She’s gone, just get over it, it wasn’t meant to be the voices told him, and he tried to believe he really did. The spilt had taken his toll on him that was for sure. He was positive he’d found love in the think blond women’s arms, it hurt too much for him to speak her name, but the truth was love was far from what they had. Pain, anger, deceit and loneliness is what they had. His marriage wasn’t to be, the two were far different, he knew that now.

He sipped again at the drink in his hands as AJ brushed passed him, a tall shapely brunette on his arm.

Another night another girl
It had been almost two months since the marriage came to an end.
So much for, till death do us part – forever doesn’t really seem very long
He sighed quietly, he didn’t miss her really, he missed just having someone.

His eyes scanned back outside to the pathway in front of the bar. He squinted into the far darkness, wondering what the secrets the shadows held. He turned around just in time to see something amazing step down onto the bar floor.

Brie looked down at the ground in front of her, she could feel sets of eyes on her, but it was nothing she wasn’t used to. It had been a private party she’d stumbled into, but of course the bouncer let her in easily. She wasn’t sure what it was about her that attracted attention, she never considered herself pretty. She was neither tall nor short, her legs weren’t particularly long or shapely. Her thick black raven hair hung around her shoulders much like a cloak, her eyes were a thick greenstone color, her lips always seemed to form a perfect smile, even though it hide many years of despair

She wished not to dwell on those times and she never asked for pity, as far as anyone new she was a beautiful olive skinned women, 21 years of age and looked as through she could model with the best of them

She slinked over to the bar dressed in a simple pair of black pants and a soft pale blue backless top. She ordered bloody Mary and tapped her long unpainted nails across the bar top. She refused to gain eye contact with anyone in the room, she wished not to be chatted up, or even to be talked to. All she wanted was a drink and time to contemplate.

Brian looked away the girl was far beyond gorgeous, there was no way he could even attempt talking to her.

The bartender severed her drink as a look of intrigue came across his face.

“Are you a model? You sure look like one” he questioned, leaning down against the bar
She looked up at him without moving her head, kept the look for a few moments then looked back down again. He wasn’t worth an answer.

She looked up and around for a few moments, there was a tall blond guy standing in the corner talking to some guys a shorter blond with too much eyeliner standing beside, gripping onto his arm, she turned, scouring at Brie
Nothing new, another girl, another stare of disgust
Her eyes darted further away to a couple in the corner, she was dark haired, curvy, quite pretty and completely engrossed in him, he was thin, tattooed and completely disinterested in her. Another couple, a tall dark man, and a thin blondish girl, sipping drinks in the far end and talking to some other guys in suites, and another with a tight dark ponytail, he smiled at her, but Brie offered no response except a polite smile. She turned again, this time her eyes looking a character paying full attention to whatever it was outside of the window. His black pants hung loosely around what Brie imagined to be thin legs, his upper body was sculptured, but not to excess, his hair was a tousled brown-blond color. She smiled to his back as her attention skimmed back to her drink.

“So what are you doing in these parts anyway?” the bartender with the growing goatee questioned wiping a glass with a towel
“Enjoying a drink” she replied dryly, she was in no mood to have pickup lines chucked at her
“Excuse me” she smiled coldly as she slipped off the seat and moved to a deserted table.

Brian closed his eyes and sighed as the silence of the world enveloped him. There was noise everywhere, but none he paid attention to. He swooped around and began making his way from the bar.

He saw her again, staring down at her drink, much the way he’d been staring at his. She was sitting now, meters away from where he stood, there was something about her that restricted him from looking away. He knew he was staring and that he should look away, but he couldn’t help it, she had grabbed his attention fully.

She looked up and caught him looking, he was kind of cute, far from sleazy. She couldn’t see the color of his eyes, but she imagined they were blue. He looked down shyly as they caught each other’s eyes.

He put his head down and kept walking. She paused for a second, contemplating if she should follow.

Within a few minutes Brian was outside, the cold night air grazing his skin as he wandered mindlessly. He was searching for nothing particular, just solitude and peace, but he doubted he would ever really find that. He felt something move behind him and spun around in shock, only to see in the light of the spots around the building the same girl he’d seen in the bar. She was standing there, her body perfectly carved, and her eyes staring at him with wonder. They said nothing.

She looked around herself in confusion. She’d followed him out here but why? She couldn’t explain the feeling she had, it was like she was drawn to him and no amount of reason or thinking could pull her away. She backed away, unsure of the silence.

Their eyes were locked without even a word been spoken. Brian took a step forward, though his head told him to walk away his heart was drawn unexplainably toward her.

The soft chorus of the song played behind them in the bar as the walked in closer.

And even though the moment passed me by
I still cant turn away
Cause all the dreams you never thought you’d lose
Get tossed along the way
And all the letters you never meant to send
Get lost or thrown away

She was like a vision, he still wasn’t sure if she was really there, as he stop only centimeters from her.

“Would you care to dance?” he questioned
She nodded as she smiled only slightly.

And now we’re grown up orphans
That never knew their names
We don’t belong to no one
That’s a shame

Reality vanished around them, as the thick song enveloped the two. She breathed slightly in the crisp night air, laying her head on his shoulder. Reason was swept aside, and nothing seemed to matter anymore, the past and the pain fainted into the background, she wondered only for a second if she was making a mistake, she didn’t know the man that held her tightly, and she was unsure if he knew her, they never exchanged names, and remained silent the whole time, yet there was a comfort in his arms she’s not known previously, a comfort that held her there.

Brian smiled as he sensed her ease in his arms, he felt the same way. She provided relief from the pain in his heart, that moment, holding her in his arms he didn’t seem to feel that, it was almost like he’d known her his whole life and she bought him a sense of peace.

But if you could hide beside me
Maybe for a while
And I wont tell no one your name
And I wont tell ‘em your name

They skidded into the bedroom, Brie closed the door with her foot as their lips grazed across each other. Neither really knew what they were doing, had all reason lost their minds? Maybe, but the passion that enveloped them was impenetrable.

She lay gently down onto the bed as clothes were plucked off each one. Her raven hair hung around her thin naked shoulders, much like the cloak she wore, this time revealing her eyes more sharply than before. His lips softly made a trail down her body, enticed by her creamy soft skin. She breathed in his scent as her fingers ran through his mane.

His lips meant hers again, as the two twisted into the sating sheets of the bed. His hands ran up her arms that rested above her hands, pausing to entwine his hands with hers, she whispered something into his ear as he entered her.

Night turned into dawn before the two rested beside each other. One rose before the other, and smiled gently down at the sleeping partner.

She whispered another soft message into his ear before she dressed and left, looking back only once to the man who loved her that night like no other had ever done.

And scars are souvenirs you never lose
The past is never far
Did you lose yourself somewhere out there?
Did you get to be a star
And don’t it make you sad to know that life
Is more than who we are

Brian awoke to the empty bed beside him, he rubbed his tired eyes softly. Had it all just been a dream? Had the beautiful women he’d made love to been simply a figment of his imagination? A rose lay beside him, and he managed a soft smile, the vision of beauty he’d been with last night was no dream, for his dreams he knew could never do her justice. He wandered around the room, hoping maybe to find her, but she was gone. She left leaving him only the vision of her presence.

We grew up way too fast
And now there’s nothing to believe
Reruns all become our history
A tired song keeps playing on a tired radio
And I wont tell no one your name
And I wont tell ‘em your name
I wont tell ‘em your name

“Reruns all become our history” Brian whispered to himself, unsure why he’d said so, had she whispered that to him whilst he slept? Was that to mean he would only endure the days with just the memory of the girl that had captured so much of him?

He wandered over to the large bay windows and opened them widely.

I think about you all the time
But I don’t need the same
It’s lonely where you are, come back down

He closed his eyes, then opened them to the late morning. His eye was drawn to the figure in the distance, shining darkly in the sun. He smiled, but only slightly as the pitch black raven sat perched on the ledge of the building staring at him.
And I wont tell ‘em your name.
