CHAPTER 28 - THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE

"And that's all he said?" an stocky officer inquired tapping his pen across the top of the flip notebook
"Yes, that's all" Tatum sighed quietly as she sunk down into the plastic chairs at the police station.
"We'll run a few notices out, run some background checks, we'll find out who this guy is" he smiled blandly
Tatum wanted to smack that smile right off him, she knew who he was, or at least the reason he was doing all this, it was too familiar to be coincidental. The guy she shot dead in the ally, was back, somehow, he was back.

Arora opened the door slowly, she knew he'd follow her home.
"Hey Brian" she sighed as he stepped in, she really didn't want to see him, it only made things worse.
"I don't know what's going on Arora, but whatever it is, its not right"
If only you knew Arora thought
"Bianca and you are best friends, or at least that's what I thought, but whatever she said to you, whatever she did wrong it's okay, I'm here" Brian smiled embracing her tightly
"What if I'm the one that did something wrong?" Arora mumbled, as fresh tears formed in her eyes. He had this ideal person built up in his head, he put Arora on a pedestal a place she was sure she didn't belong.
"Like you ever could" Brian grinned
Arora broke free from the embrace.
"People make mistakes Brian, that's what makes us human" Arora whispered
"Rose what are you talking about?" Brian inquired
"Bianca only said what she was entitled to say, I made the mistake Brian"
"It doesn't matter" he smiled running his hands through her loose hair "Sssh, don't worry about it" he added
"But, don't you want to know what I did?"
"No" Brian said softly "It doesn't matter to me, I love you no matter what" he shrugged
Arora turned around her feet walking her towards the cabinet where a picture of her family sat in a plain silver frame. She picked it up, staring into the glass as though it would tell her the answers to every question.
"I never really learnt much from my father, but I remember he always used to tell me, the truth will set you free. He always taught me that the truth tests our faith, do you believe that?" she questioned running her finger across the top of the glass
"I suppose, yes" Brian shrugged unsure where this was actually going
"I need to be set free Brian, I'm living a nightmare. Let the truth set you free" she whispered replacing the photo "I need to tell you something" she sighed, unsure even how she could possibly tell him the truth
"Whatever you need to say Rose" he smiled as he sat down onto the couch
Arora slowly slid down beside him, her face looking straight ahead contemplating the words she needed to say. She twisted her head to look at him as he reached his hand in to hold hers after placing a soft kiss to the back of it.

Let the truth set you free
"A while ago, while we were on the America Verses Us Tour, something happened" she begun.
Brian's blue eyes shone with intensity as he hung to each word.
She took a deep breath, this was harder than anything she could envision.

"I went to your room one night, to, well you know, BE with you, but I got the wrong room"
A smile peeked on Brian's face as she spoke.
"Is that all?" he grinned
Arora swallowed hard - she wished that was all.
"It was Nick's room, but I didn't know till it was too late"
"What do you mean too late?" Brian inquired, the smile slowly fading
"We'd already gotten intimate before we realized, it was dark and late, I thought it was you, he thought it was Bianca"
"And Bianca knows this?"
"Brian that's not all. I need you to just listen to me okay, because I just need to tell you this, I just need to be honest"
"Okay" Brian nodded
"Time went by, but we couldn't move on, something stuck in our minds about that night, we knew it wasn't right Brian, but we couldn't fight it either. There was a time we thought we might have something going for each other, but neither of us wanted to face that, we didn't want to hurt anyone Brian. Do you know the saying that there are just something's that no matter how hard it tries, time can't erase them? We tried to erase the past Brian but it all came flooding back a few weeks ago, I wish I could explain this to you, I wish that I could make you try and see we didn't mean to hurt anyone, but we are" Arora wept quietly tears sliding down her pale face

Brian dropped Arora's hand from his own, he understood exactly what she was saying, and the puzzle pieces began to fit.
"That night we came home and Bianca was crying, she said that Nick had said he loved someone else, it was you wasn't it?" Brian questioned calmly
"Yes" she mumbled in response, dropping her head slowly
"Oh god" Brian cursed standing to his feet "Bianca went there that night, she must have heard you two" he stammered in disbelief.
"I'm so sorry Brian, if I could turn back time, I would do it in a instant, I wouldn't make the same mistakes, but I cant, I cant do that"
"Do you love him?" Brian inquired, his tine deathly serious
"I don't know" Arora whispered. That was the truth, she didn't know anymore, she didn't know how she felt, she'd lost everything - Bianca, Brian, everyone that mattered to her she'd betrayed.

Brian voice was choked, his eyes on the brink of tears, his heart was in shock, unable to come to terms with what she was saying. It was like in one swift motion he was stabbed through the heart with a dagger.
"No, no, say it's no true" he pleaded
"I'm sorry" Arora managed to reply

Brian's lip quivered silent words springing forth. He backed further away form her, his eyes praying this was false, some nightmare, begging that this couldn't possibly be the truth.
"Not you Arora, not you" he whispered as he reached the door.
Turning, he opened it and fled into the night.
